Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I saw this site and couldn't resist posting it.

If it doesn't implode dot-bomb style, is this where the messenger business is going? Crowd-sourced, Wikipedia style?

Cool idea. I'd even be a runner for this company if I felt I could turn a profit by making a lot of runs. Hard to say from what the site gives. I wonder if it'll work! I work for a tech startup so things like this interest me.

I'd be up for a part time job for something like that.

Seems interesting. I could see it doing well around here, if it doesn't fizzle out before getting over here.

When I went to the site I was concerned about people flaking out on jobs or half-*****ed doing them. But, the rating system sort of gives me reassurance.

It's cool. It may even be a decent gig in a small square mileage city with a big population like SF or similar cities.

Are they as driven by social mechanisms - i.e. ratings feedback loops and reviews - as this one?

I also keep hearing how messenger work is declining now that the web is getting secure transmission and better bandwidth. I'm curious if it's just pushing the work to the lower end, and the only way to make that workable is to get a big enough flow of jobs and available talent, and remove as much friction from transactions as possible. Is this doing something different?
