Possible First Project

My little bro's been needing an upgrade from his trash Target bike and I saw this on craigslist:

Marin frame, CF fork, Vuelta XRP rims. No seatpost/seat/BB/crank/pedals/chain/brakes. Would anyone happen to recognize that frame? The guy's selling this all for $65 so I'll probably pick it up either way, but just thought I'd ask for some reassurance. Also, any idea how much it'd cost to build this thing back up?

Apologies for the ****ty CL photos.

On how much itll cost to build it back up i suppose it depends on what kind of parts you want? You can find everything you want for under 100 bucks I suppose at Recycled Cycles (they have all those bins with every part imaginable).

seems like a good price, even if there's something wrong with the carbon, or the frame doesn't work out.

i am not sure i'd ride that unless a visual inspection showed it to be visibly flawless.(invisible flaws happen all the time, but for 60 bucks you could chance it if you don't value your brother's life)

if of course i knew what i was looking for(which i am pretty sure i do).

even then, when you can buy a brand new frame for 90 dollars, i don't know if i'd even chance that.

you'll need a headset, a brake, a crankarm/chainring, a seatpost and saddle...

even using cheap crappy used parts you'd be at 50 dollars more unless people actually gave you stuff.

and believe me you don't want crappy used parts. even if you got awesome parts at a killer deal, you still can't set chain tension so what good is it? not to mention the rear canti posts and front road fork...

just get a BD bike if you want something cheap, or save up and build up something that's meant to be tensioned.

at least the target bike is rideable.

thanks for shttin on my parade bro

nah, good points brought up though. in all actuality, my lil bro (who's 9) probably wouldnt be able to ride the bike for another few years. i just needed a semi-legit excuse to buy something to build up :)

well i bought a redline frame for 50 bucks and built it up, but i was really strapped for cash and i had old single pivot brakes on it and **** and it was just crap by the end of it.

build something up, and get the wheels off him, but offer him 50 for just the wheels and then wait for something that will actually be worth the build.
