Help Please? Any single/fixie's for $300 range for 6'0" 195lbs guy? First single

Hello everyone, Im going to be quick about this as im not sure what to look for. I got into biking 2 years ago and have been riding a '08 Marin Muirwoods 29er for 2 years now for all of my urban, trail, and just wherever I want to go riding. Well now I am looking to getting into a singlespeed/fixie bike (want flip flob hub). Being that this will be my first singlespeed and I am probably going to thrash on it in the beginning I want to stay in the $300 price range so I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I am 6'0" and 195lbs right now but droppin the lbs little by little right now and looking for something that would work as a beginner bike for me. Please if you guys have any advice on bikes and possibly frame sizes for someone like myself let me know it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Have you looked at ANY of the threads in this forum yet?
There is one in particular that is over 300 pages long and may be the way to salvation for you sir.
I hope you find what you are looking for and thrash on it!

Yes I have been. Im sorry its such a generic post just wasn't sure that being in almost the clydesdale category of my size if there is something more specific I should be looking at. I am still learning the terminology and stuff so focusing on the FAQ's right now. Have been on the bikesdirect website also and also have looked into the Republic Aristotle and the Nashbar Singlespeed. Is there a thread that I'm not finding that maybe has reviews on the cheaper bikes somewhere?

The Nashbar Singlespeed is fine. I have had the same one for almost a year now. I bought it when they first popped up on ebay and haven't had any problems with it. You will need to tension the wheels though, and I replaced the handlebars and generic tires before I even rode it.

There's a bike called the American Flyer. I couldn't find a link. It's Walmart quality and should last about a week or so but if you want cheap then find one of those. I think it's about $229.

sorry for being testy, scrodzilla's link is really the place to go for your price range... which happens to be the same as mine and I just bought a KiloTT...
I would recommend that you wait, or finagle some way to bite the bullet and get the "pro" version...
You will be able to happily ride that machine until uber-materialism sets in, or you break something. Its a fantastic bike and in my opinion there is nothing better (complete bike) until you are ready to spend $800 or more

Thank you for the constructive comments guys. Sorry deffinately not a racer or anything of that sort I just fell in love with a buddy's single speed at the simplicity and how quiet the ride is. Being able to be rough with the bike, the ability to pickup speed so fast, no derailer or constant tweaking all the time is what is pulling me towards this idea. Just want to get on and enjoy the ride and I know spending more would be the smartest thing but I just can't afford it as I am still a minimum wage student. If someone stole a $800 bike from me I would be SOL for a long time. So for me to gather a large amount of cash will take a long time where I would rather get on a bike and be able to actually ride this summer and over time ad the parts that I want as money becomes available for them. I am looking at the Kilo TT right now after doing some reading of the "A discussion of budget fixed-specific frames/complete bikes "

Maybe the Dawes SST-AL? The tubing appears to be pretty beefy.

I'm close to the same size and will be dropping either a Dawes SST or SST-AL in the next couple of days FYI. Not an expert though, but at least you'll have company if you go with BD and your wheels end up pancaking.

I have a dawes SST and its suited me very well. I ride it at least 8 miles a day for my commute to work and sometimes a lot more for my other jobs. I ride in NYC all over and have not had any problems with my wheels going out of true unless I crashed really bad. Im 6 foot, 220 pounds. the frame is as solid as a lot of more expensive frames out there. and if you have any really problems with the components or just wanna look cooler on the road you can swap them out with ease. overall a great intro to singlespeed. Im thinking about making the upgrade to the flip flop with a fixed soon.
