fyxation tires?
anyone used these? http://fyxation.com/
they look super sweet. I like how they have traction along the tire side-walls... maybe someone could compare to gator skins or armadillos? The kick-butt traction maybe useless if they aren't bombproof. |
Do you want pretty colors? if so they're great. Do you want something as good as gatorskins? stay away and just get the gatorskins.
|
Rymep - Have you used these tires or is it just that time of the month? Shed some light on your answer. Stay away? For what reason?

4 of the "stats" listed on their product page are useless hype: 1) Pinch-flat protection. (Oh really? It's called pumping your tires to the right psi) 2 & 3) Full tread pattern and full diamond pattern (They're listed as separate features but they're the same thing. Plus on a street tire, tread is useless. You're better off for traction with a smoother tire like the Gatorskin. Besides, are you really going to corner fast enough to lean the bike down and use that super-special sidewall tread pattern?) 4) Colours. So? Coloured compounds, unless things have changed, have typically worn out faster than plain old black. |
shill 101--do not feed the shill.

promotion fail. still [sold out] when they told us they'd be back in stock 2 months ago.

Actually, I ride on a daily basis and was actually just marvelling the other day over how clean my white tires stay. I've found that even when the tread does get a little sh*tty looking, all it takes is riding over a patch of fresh cement and it tends to clean them up. As far as Fyxations go, a friend of mine has them and they don't seem too bad if colors are your sort of thing. They're just as tough than a lot of tires in their price bracket and I'm assuming your not planning on competing in triathalons with them. The green ones look amazing in real life. Oops...forgot where I was. Get black. Only the black ones contain carbon. Actually...they're all terrible. Forget they exist. :D |
Why would you buy tires for any reason other than how well they perform?

Curious - Has anyone commenting ridden them...or even seen them in person...besides me? |
I have them on order and I'm told that I should get them next week. I ordered the black because I am not that into the colors. Either way, I'm stoked to get them. I've seen feedback on other blogs and they sound good. I tend to ignore marketing hype on a company's website because obviously their spin will be positive.
I don't think I'll sleep with them though like Clifton or Rymep do with their gatorskins. Just plan on riding them. |

Look, he asked how they compared, after looking at them I don't think they seem as nice, Clifton popped in and gave the reasons why they don't seem as nice. So how bout you unbunch your panties and realize that it doesn't matter what people online thought of your purchasing decisions and that this thread was to see how they stacked up against other tires, which we at least gave an opinion on. All you've done is namecall because we don't agree with you. |
@ clifton, the gatonskin is nominally a 180 tpi threadcount but it's misleading and not directly comparable to other manufacturers as they triple up on the casing material at 60 tpi each.
the fyxation tires seem ok to me. i'd get some myself if i wanted to embrace the colors of the 80s. |
those things LOOK great! Oops, almost had fun... sorry!

My comments about tread pattern and pinch-flat protection still stand. |

That being the case, I'll rescind my tpi justification.

That tread-pattern is geared more toward dudes who do tricks, modeled almost exactly after the Kenda Kontact flatland BMX tire:
http://www.danscomp.com/images/products/mid_444060.gif It may be silly to some, but there are people who do pretty gnarly tricks on fixed-gears/single-speeds. I've seen video of guys doing wall-rides at skateparks and couldn't imagine attempting it...nor would any flatland BMX guy attempt to ride as they do...with any kind of 'slick' road tire. Not that I would attempt stuff like that at all, but I hope you know what I mean. Again, people are judging something they've never even seen. It's okay guys...colored tires of quality may be out there! |

I don't know, man. I was out riding one night, fell into a groove/crack in the blacktop nearly as deep as my tire (Massachusetts roads are terrible) and damaged the sidewall of my tire pretty bad. Might not have happened if there was tread there.
They're a cool-looking, durable tire. All this talk coupled with knowing that my friend loves his is actually making me want to order a set. |
i want to try some too...i bet they are fun...green for me
|
The marketing is mostly nonsense (remember someone mentioning the tread is supposed to help not sliding out during whip skids in wet weather, which is ridiculous). It'll be impossible to know how the tire rides until people actually start trying them out.
the colours are pretty though |
Thanks everyone! I have issues with skidding in turns because of all the sand on the sidewalks. Im still pretty new to riding, and someone suggested that I put more weight on my tires... and then i also found out that I just have REALLY ****ty tires right now anyway.
Anyone tried armadillos? |
