leaderbike seems to think this forum is a courtroom

and they want a "retraction"... they even sent me an uppity PM to tell me, especially, how much they appreciate that i'm such a bikesdirect fan. i'm sorry, but they have a better value. if you think that's a shill fine, but the alternative is a REAL bike, not an internet based asian made "company"... they don't care when i trash their products in opposition to a bike company that only sells through reputable dealers, but when i start saying another company in the market share is better, then it should be retracted? yeah, right. until you can ride either of these bikes or at least see them built up, you have to go on opinion and constructed information like that on the business' website. how many 725tr's have you seen here with drops, let alone built to race? it's just not a smart frame to go with if you want a race bike.

the fact is that, as leaderbike admits, their frame is a heavier bike that won't get dents and dings as easily as a racing bike. well, guess what everyone... a racing bike the leader is not. you could just as easily win a race on a surly steamroller... and yet the surly marketing wizards aren't trying to market their bikes as both trick and track bikes... remember when it first came out? they wanted EVERYONE to know how much tricking the 725tr could take, and just how beefy and heavy and sturdy it was... well more than other bikes sure, but it's not built for track racing if it's as beefy as the weight seems. i've seen them both built up and they're a very different type of bike.

you can have track, or you can have trick. you can't have both, and to market to both is an error in better judgement. not with the same material at least, regardless of series of material or fake geometry terms...

you can race with either of these... but as much as the FTP or motobecane would break and fail at trick use, the leader will fail at race use... it's just as expensive and heavier, none stiffer(from what i've seen, if they have data i'll let them deal with the burden of proof), and has way less track heritage and pedigree-(they say they've won velodrome races around the world... i guarantee you it's not even on the same scale as the FTP's velodrome record. I'd even venture to say the track pro has won thousands more races, and am sure it's won hundreds...)... to even consider them the same animal... the track team is an FTP and a track bike... the 25tr is a trick bike. you decide what you want.

Congratulations to bikedirrect for making good affordable bikes. First and foremost we all love bikes. We only PM cc700 to post facts about the 725TR and that we would be happy to provide more information if needed on another thread. This thread is about the team track and let’s keep it that way. If anyone wants to ask about Leader Bike you can use any of the other threads related to Leader on this forum.

We apoligize for this interuption.

We will not be involved or respond to this thread in the future.

LB Team

very nice wheels from what I can tell; as we have sold thousands with very little issues

I just hope these bikes ship soon; this entire project took too long
I am used to things taking 4 to 6 months; but this was way longer

plus now, I really want to see the Orange one

Not in yet
But as soon as they are I will get an orange one and photo it
I picked Orange as the second color as I love Orange and it is the Moto "Team" color {which is odd as now many who race Motos are on the Ti bikes which we never paint -- I am wondering is painting a Ti bike is kinda of like painting a Delorean in terms of changing the whole effect}

Anyway, I hope this bikes sail soon

I saw that you mentioned that the total build weighs in at about 15.5lbs.

Why don't BD list the weight on the website?

I am sure a lot of people want to know, it's always one of the things people look for when looking at a bike. (sure it's not the most important thing, but still we like to know)

With an estimated ship date 3 weeks out, I expect that at the very least we can get a *definite* parts list from bikesdirect_com.

I'm sorry, but isn't a Motobecane track bike with front and rear brakes just this :

Oh, but it has track drop outs. Might as well just add a hole in the downtube for friction shifters!

No doubt. Their posts are pretty comical. It's like talking to a defensive/misguided used car salesman.

The 2010 Motobecane FLY Team with Disc brakes is NOT 20.1lbs!
"Weight: The Trek 8500 weighs 23.6 lbs. (size 17.5/med per trek customer service 800-313-8735) The FLY Team weighs 20.1 lbs (*size small/16" no pedals/reflectors)
Hell no!
Should I break down all the pats by weight for you? Just those wheel alone are heavy as hell.

My 1250g (FRAME) HT with heavy wheels and lighter parks is sub 20lbs.

But no way this bike was or even the v-Brake version probably.

The 2010 Motobecane FLY 9357 is not sub 21.1lbs either.

How do I know? Well a friend bought a small Team Fly in 2009 and it was 22.7lbs

Well, I weighed the 2010 models myself - without pedals and reflectors
and of course the Fly Team Ti is certainly under 20 lbs - so that is where the under 20 lbs comes in

The New Fly models do have a bit beefed up frames; but without paint they still come in very light
Pro is heavier than it used to be; due to wider cassette
9357 and Team are still about light as ever; and the weights I got when I weighed them are darn close to what anyone will find on a 2010

And with the specs and weight and price these bikes have; I think they are clearly the best deal on super light XC bikes available anywhere -- and that is probably why we run out of these bikes so often.

But as all sites say that discuss weights; your results may vary [however, it will not be by much - as my scale is very very close to dead on]

Moto light versions of 29er HT and FS CX bikes also sell out quick. Given the interest in light bikes; I am working on doing super light road and maybe track bikes; there seems to be a bit of interest in that and I have built up a 14.5lb road Moto that might be very popular. On track, I think I would have to get to 12 lbs to impress anyone.

It is always fun to build bikes that are light; although it is not really the most important thing we can do for cycling.

Thanks
what size is yours
my wife's is 19.6 - but she must ride a smaller size than yours

Of course, in the case of all FLY models; I think the real question is: What else can you get that is around 20 lbs or 21 lbs stock?

Most XC bikes that are under $3000 are more like 23 to 24 lbs - I am fairly sure

Scott has some super light XC bikes - but they are kind of pricing if I recall correctly.

At any rate; people like the FLYs for the price and I think at least in road we should add some real light bikes [we do some now that are 16 lbs - but I think some customers would like to see sub 15lbs

Ok, for fun I run the numbers. Give me a VERIFIED frame weight on the scale picture.

If I am wrong, I will host a banner for them on my site for one month!

With disc brakes? Post a picture with a scale. Just compare the specs to my bike.

The ONLY thing lighter is the fork, but 120g.

I have not weighed a frame of the new type yet; spec is 130 grams heavier than old frame as I beefed it up - then left unpainted which saved maybe 90 grams

When the production bikes come in I will weigh one or two and post - already sold the 3 that were sent in by air

Here is the only one I have with picture of weight
BUT IT IS ON THE STEEL VERSION
Aluminum and Ti versions are lighter as you might guess
And this version does not use the lightest crank we use - it uses AL crank instead of CF
Still 21.1 lb for any XC race bike is light - and for Steel it is very light

Of course, I am still trying to figure out who is our competition in the sub $2000 super light XC race bike market

I could make the Fly Pro, Fly 9357, Fly Team, and Fly Team Ti all even lighter - but whats the point? I think they are light enough already. {that is what is funny, we have a sub 16 lb road bike and we get e-mails requesting we build a sub 15 lb one - When we do: we will get e-mails requesting a sub 14 lb one - when will it stop? What is reasonable for a super light road bike?}
