Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Mountain Bike SS Conversions - Is there a quiet chain tensioner out there?

I'm trying to find a basic, not so expensive, but does-the-job-well chain tensioner for my hardtail with vertical dropouts.

Currently I'm running 32-14 which is the magic ratio for my bike, but my chain is new and I know it'll stretch to an un-favorable amount, plus I like running 32-16 when I'm on trails.

I've tried something very similar to this...

https://www.getprice.com.au/images/up...-tensioner.jpg

It's a spring loaded chain tensioner that mounts by the rear derailleur hanger. It's very nice, I like the form factor of it, but my GOSH it's noisy. It's noisy to the point it drives me insane.

I have a fixed tensioner... the Sette Chain Guide II... it has a roller and it's very nice, however I REALLY prefer spring loaded tensioners...

Is there a spring loaded tensioner that is relatively quiet and has some decent power behind the spring?

Hey, thanks. I've already seen it. I know what my options are. I'm asking for user opinions from people who owned them.

Call me crazy, but I'm willing to bet someone who has a single speed mountain bike would be more likely to be found here versus the mountain bike forum, especially considering I'm specifically questioning a single speed part and not anything else that's typical on a regular mountain bike.
