speedplay frog pedals. i could not imagine a better pedal for fixed gear use.

shimano sandals are very comfortable and versatile for all seasons (good socks in winter). but now i'm going to try a few regular shoes, because my friend's dog chewed my sandals to bits.

Finally ordered my clipless set up after all this time.... Ordered some Shimano mtb shoes, and some Time ATAC alium pedals. Stoked.

i use sidi giaus and look quartz carbons. i like them for the most part. they squeak sometimes.

I started out with Sidi Bullet2 shoe and Shimano SPDs.

Then I switched to a variety of crank brothers pedals on all my bikes. The only CB pedal I really ever was satisfied with is the quattro, combined with a Sidi Genius 5 shoe. I'm still using those, but went back to SPDs on other bikes. Neither of these types of pedals is perfect. Crankbrothers pedals feel sort of loose and sloppy, they have a wide Q, and the pedals are not durable. I've had many warrantee issues with them. SPDs on the other hand are very durable, but I've had occasional accidental unclips and as the pedal wears they get harder and harder to unclip. Also the SPD cleat is too large...it doesn't fit completely below the MTB shoe tread and still grinds on the sidewalk when walking, even with Shimano brand shoes. Eggbeater cleats on the other hand are small enough that they never contact the ground.


I'm currently, using M324, A520s, M770 and a few other SPD pedals and on two of my bikes and still running Crank Brothers Quattro road pedals on a few others. The quattros are discontinued and its harder to find replacement cleats. I'm planning on phasing these out to either Shimano or Look road pedals in the next year.

As far as shoes go, I stick with Sidi shoes because they are comfortable and extremely durable. I know what size fits me, so I can easily order online now for good deals. When the weather gets ****ty, I use Shimano MW80 winter boots, but I just bought these so I can't really comment on how good they are yet.

And in answer to your question, I think most people here have ridden clips and straps. It's just that functionally and comfortably, clipless is way better.

I love the look of nice leather double straps and Sylvan track pedals. And for little rides around they are great. But clipless is really just so much better.

Already been said but yes, I've been riding clips and straps for a year now and I'm ready to move to clipless. I've been hurting the tops of my feet lately when applying upward force to brake, or when skidding to brake in emergency. Even with the straps cranked way down tight, seems like I bruise from the force, and lack of protection from normal shoes. That's just one reason why I decided to make the plunge.

Walking in them sucks but it's not as bad as many make it out to be.

Keo and SPD-SL cleats come with rubber pads to keep from slipping.

So I'm nervously and anxiously awaiting my shoes and pedals to get here so I can try them out. But I was wondering what the general consensus was towards skipping/skidding with clipless setups? Am I going to be worried every time I need to come to a quick stop that I will clip out? I read somewhere that SPD setups are dangerous for skidding/skipping.... The setup I'll be using is described in the post above this one ^

Shimano M076 Mountain Shoes + Candy C's on my fixed, Eggbeater SL's on my Cross bike and my mountain bike.

I want Candy pedals on my cross bike. I used to have eggbeaters on my fixed and I can't recommend them. I always used to accidentally come out of them when I was sprinting. With fixed this can be really really scary, and you could get thrown off your bike if you're going fast enough and not prepared.

I have Eggbeater C's on my Fixie I am using an old pair of Specialized lace up shoes. I haven't found any problems skidding/skipping but I'm not very good at it and as often as not use my front brake. The only time I have popped out was when I bottomed the pedal out on a curb

Are you using slotted cleats with your clips and straps? Using them means you don't have to crank your straps down so tight to keep your foot stable.
