Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It's better to have a destination that is up-hill, and then you just use gravity brakes. Or you can bounce off of pedestrians and parked cars. Or get a brake.

It's called a skid, which doesnt technically stop you, it skids.
If youre just getting into fixed gears, please dear lord start with a brake.

you just have to kinda jump off the bike. wait untill your cranks are at 3 and 9 and give the handlebars a quick push. make sure to grab the saddle when you're off!

How about this? What I really like about this guy is he's smart enough to wear a helmet, or maybe it's just the law in Toronto.

As you ride, you need to squeeze your cranks together real tight, and lift up the rear. Repeat. And now you got yourself some hopping.

You might want to try any fixed object like a building wall or an electric pole. I have not used a wall for stopping, but I certainly had a close encounter with an electric pole. I saw some stars in my vision, but I certainly stopped with ZERO breaking distance.
