That's a pretty sweet gallery. Here's my favorite:

The run down.
Yes it was race/work stimulation. One of the check points was at the Indy Fab plant, where we were required to have our picture taken.
On the helmets: a lot of messengers don't were helmets when they work. This year the main race was on an open course (normally it's on a closed course), so even though we signed a waiver saying "if you get hurt nobody is responsible but yourself" they still required us to wear helmets, thus a lot of people grabbed some cheap ass helmet to get past the rules for a day.

What is the deal with bike dudes and cutoff shorts?
Are people just too cheap to buy actual shorts?
It's become a real epidemic around NYC.

Please tell us what a real job is, then. What exactly makes one's labor or occupation real or fake? What job do you consider real?
I am guessing you've never been a courier since you're from Texas. Crappy job with [often] little pay and no benefits, yes, but still a job nonetheless (and a job that many love doing) -- and I'd guess 99% of posters on this forum could not handle the work and are in no position to judge whether or not a courier's labor has merit. You, being a prime example.
Of course, the job of a courier has taken on much hype in the last few years, hence these cheeseball centerfold-esque glamourshots posted in this thread. Couriers are no different from cabbies or food delievery people...but they still are engaging in a labor that the market demands and remunerates.
I am interested in hearing your half-baked ideas on labor, so please continue your thoughts. And I recommend visiting a large city like NY or Chicago and walking up to a seasoned courier and telling them their job is fake with as much condescension...the response would probably be the same if you said the same to anyone busting their asses to earn a living: a punch in the face or a verbal assault.

I just find the magnetism of a fixed cog and cutoff shorts to be an odd thing.
The only other people I see wearing them so religiously are female.

They aren't the elite of the FG scene, maybe more like the elite of the messenger scene. I didn't used to think there was a messenger scene, but maybe now there is. But yeah, most messengers I knew back home were either dorks (in the sense that they were kind of outsiders and kind of did whatever they felt like, which was usually really weird) or dope-fiends. These guys look like they are more of the dorky type. Generally good people, they were.

You might be wrong there. One of the people in there is a former Cat 1 road, track, and cross racer. Ain't your mom ever teach you something about judging books by covers?
