Help On Sizing PLEASE (have measurements from fit calculator [competitivecyclist])
Hi I'm about 5'6 with a 29in inseam and i weigh about 160 lbs (im relatively proportional... but maybe a tiny bit smaller on the torso side) and I've been looking at two different bikes wondering which would fit me better. This will be my first fixed/singlespeed bike
49cm Matte Black Dawes SST
and the
49cm or 54cm Gloss White Windsor Hour
*I opted out of the 50cm Kilo because of the complaints on overlap....
can anyone help? and also, if you guys have seen a 49cm, does the bike look stunted/midget like?
Thanks in advance for any help.

It will be fine. A lot of "49cm" bikes have lowered top tubes but still have a 52cm top tubes. You can't really go below 52cm TT for a 700c bike and still have front-end geometry worth handling.
Anyway, it will look fine and will probably fit you just fine. I'm about the same size. I ride a 50cm IRO.

I'm 5'8'' with short legs and ride a 54cm. 49cm sounds super small to me. Of course you will want a smaller cockpit that I will, but 49cm sounds extreme.

I just purchased a 44cm Redline 925, and I'm 5'7" tall. I'm proportional, and not short legged. I feel very comfortable with the top tube length and the angle I'm on when I'm out on the bull horns.
I have a bit of toe overlap though. If I would have purchased the 48cm, I don't think I'd have any overlap. I did fit the 48, and could have adjusted things for it to fit me better, but the top tube was lightly thouching my package, so I went for the smaller bike.
I'd rather have the 48cm now just for the longer wheelbase, and a slightly less sloping top tube.

The best way to handle this is by going to your LBS for a fitting. It is not an expensive proposition. Unless you are at an age that you are still growing this only needs to be done once. Everyone is a little different. People of the same height and weight have different inseams, upper body, arm and leg proportions. I am assuming you plan to ride the bike frequently and want to be as comfortable and efficient as possible. I don't know if you want the bike to serve generic purposes like daily commuting or specific purposes like tricks. These are the sort of questions your LBS will ask after your fitting and the answers affect what you will eventually settle on. Asking on the internet is not the way to make this decision. You are an individual with specific to you dimensions and desires. If you choose not to get fitted the chances are very good that you will spend much more time, effort and money learning what works for you the hard way. Give your LBS a stop.

I have almost the exact measurements as you and ride a 50 cm kilo tt. The overlap is nothing man. Even high end expensive bikes sometime come with over lap.
You can even change the 700c wheels to 650c and get rid of the overlap but it changes your bike geometry... overlap is only a minor problem when i am going at very low speeds and need to make a sharp turn.

I just discovered the IRO Phoenix tonight online. It has more relaxed geometry. I wonder about overlap with it?
