    origin8 del passado dilemma

New to the forum here, but have a dilemma. Been riding fixed for years in NYC and I have a nice bike I really like for this purpose. clean and set up exactly as I want it. Now I'm looking for a single speed commuter, basically a track bike with free wheel and brakes and with similar geometry to the bike I've been riding. So last night at the local bike shop, I test rode this new origin8 del passado, and it really fit. bike shop wants around $600 for it, but I want to make sure I'm not buying a total piece of junk. It's velocity wheel set, origin8 bars, stem, cranks. Anyone know anything about these frames. I know they retail around $200 for frame and fork. I don't really care about the cool factor, I just really liked the fit. felt like a bike that would beckon me daily, unfortunately the fixie has had it's heyday, but I still love to ride it just not as a commuter(rather my knees don't like it as a commuter)

seems like a decent bike. Personally I dislike the looks, but if it floats your boat, it is a pretty good bike. $600 seems a little steep though, considering it really doesn't have anything special over any of the other entry level 4130 ss bikes (bd.com, madison, redline 925, etc.)

I have a feeling all those frames are welded together across the street from one another in one neighborhood in Taiwan, but the schwinns and motobecanes go for around $800 complete here I think. "entry level" does make me wince a bit though.

I say that just because it is a relatively cheap steel frame with not so high end components. Being in the "entry level" price range does not mean a bad bike, I am just saying that quality of the frame and components is gong to be about equal to those, which can be had for ~400 USD

edit: still, maybe entry level was the wrong phrase. These are no Hi-Ten bad frames. I just wanted to clarify that it is similar quality to something like Madison, Moto Messenger, Kilo TT, etc. which can all be had for less than 600

thanks, I didn't know about the redline so maybe I'll go and ride one of those before I decide. it looks like a contender in the realm of what I'm looking for.
