Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

BLAH BLAH BEER BLAH BIKE and BLAH!

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go, no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone

Tonight I went out and ran a few miles since I’m trying to round out my fitness and in general, get stronger. After my run I went and threw down 12 miles on my fix just to keep things in perspective. So here I am, brimming with the endorphins that come after getting your heart going and I decide I’m going to drink a couple beers. Tonight in Cincinnati is cool compared to the heat and the humidity that we normally get around this time every year. This made it even more necessary to just go outside and look at the sky. It was clear tonight, no clouds. After your eyes adjusted you could just see a whole ****load of stars. So I’ve got a buzz going and I’m looking at the sky and I’ve got the Grateful Dead playing in my mind* and I’m thinking about just how small we are in this universe. A feeling that is compounded by a show I watched the other night about the expansiveness of our universe and that currently they think there are infinite universes. I see a shooting star. I’ve seen a lot of these in my lifetime. I’m not sure if it’s because there are so many of them or if it’s because I’m more likely to be looking at the sky than most people I know. Anyway, tonight was a good night for me and I hope it was for all of you as well. There is nothing like a good night, a good bike and a good beer to remind you just how good it is be alive. Cheers, ladies and gents!

*NO, I'm not a hippie!
