Why should he "try to search?"

What difference does it make?

the leader didn't look too bad. supposedly some reynolds 853 (tt and dt) with 525 for the rest. or it was. now they're using kawasaki steel. can't remember if they said they're continuing production with the lugged ones.

bikeisland has the fuji obey/ premium brew frameset for 250. seems pretty nice, but i haven't heard much about it on here. looks like it's more road geo (also big discrepancies on geo it seems. some people say 27.2 seatpost, others 26.8, and owners say 27. also i've seen chainstays reported at like 352 to 410. weak)

for a thousand though you can get some pretty nice stuff. I don't shop on that high end though so i wouldn't know.

oh and those keirin frames are nice, don't pay the 800 that most people ask though. 500 is more fair imo with bb and headset. I got mine for under 4 hundo (no lugs though, fillet brazed. I personally prefer it) with s75 bb and hatta hs, very light and top quality.

maybe because there is 100000000 options all that come down to preference. There is no best for 1000 dollars. Do you like European? Do you like Japanese? American? Or do you just not care and want to know what frame looks the best for 1000? All of this is preference.

All these threads would give you some information that would help you get going in the right direction. Then maybe you can come back and ask specific answers.

There is another 100 threads that would prob work too, and I do not really care to do some one else research

If you've got a grand to blow on a frame, start talking to your local framebuilders and see what they can do for you.

Hint - it'll be cheaper to get it TIGed, and you're not going to notice any difference in the ride.

So many local framebuilders (at least in Portland) are $1300 on the LOW end and 90% are in the $1800-2400 range........

Portland's probably been heavily influenced by those rolling museum pieces that vanilla keeps churning out.

There have to be some builders more interested in how it rides than how it looks, though.

but aren't questions from beginners one of the things that this forum is for?? I dont get the "use the search function" direction. sooner or later, most questions will have been answered in one form or another, and this forum will be nothing but a database. I do things up in the search VERY FREQUENTLY , but sometimes you want a fresh answer. You know what I mean? Besides, you dont have to answer the same question every time, you can ignore them. I know mine get ignored a lot

that said, short of getting really lucky on ebay, what I wish I had the money to get one of the new Panasonics. Boy oh Boy. theres a guy here on the forum "deathhare" who can help get you one. I contacted him before I got extremely lucky on ebay with an italian frame, and he was totally cool.
You can choose the color, and theyll put your name on the top tube in japanese!

Sorry I cant find the url - use the search function

I did not say use search. I asked if he did use it. I do not know why there is all this search backlash lately. It is there for a reason, and if you use it properly you can get a lot of good info. I Also I asked because I do not know much about lugged bikes, and it is an easy way to find info. Of coarse I can tell him to get a Panasonic, which many people will recommend, but I am guessing very few have actually ridden. I really do not care how people use the forum. Though it is more constructive if you have an idea of what you want before you ask a question. Like I said there is many types of lugged frames, so it is a fairly vague question. Does he want one for pure vanity or does he want the best ride quality possible? Is he using it on the street? Is it a coffee getter? a commuter? Or does he want it for the track? none of these questions were answered in his post. You need more info before you can give him good advice.

nah. I guess you could make a much more educated suggestion if you had more information, but im sure suggestions is all the OP is looking for. and besides, if all those questions need to be asked for a real answer, can you imagine how hard that would be using the search function? If im into lugged frames, and I got that kind of coin on hand, I would go new Panasonic. You dont have to have experience driving a ferrarri, to know that you would want to have one if you had the money. Commuter, coffee getter or street, if I wanted to spend a grand on a frame, the best choice -for me at least -would be a new panasonic.

I didnt notice any backlash, but it does seem a little dismissive to say to a newbie, "use the search function" (which I know you didnt do, you asked if he did use it already, and that is a big difference.)

I can see how my original post could be taken badly. I made it late at night and it made sense to me at the time. Personally with 1k id buy a jamis sonik frame, but i know that isnt want he wants.
