Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

This thread pretty much sums up why I hate the dentist.

boosh! Now imagine being the salesperson that has to deal with the dentist, and cries a little bit as they ride home from their job at the LBS on a beater '94 stumpjumper.

Awesome bike. If, in some entirely theoretical universe where I have plenty of money to spend on bikes, I could justify the expense, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. Pretty much the ideal SS road bike in my opinion.

Can bike buying become additcting like anything else? How many bikes can you really ride? I have 6 now and want more.. Whats the attraction... Anyways I ordered one of these Trek Carbon Districts and Trek told the shop that it wont beavailable until last week of october..

anything can be addicting. i think that's great you own all those bikes in your signature and you must be very rich to have all those nice bikes. but if you're buying all of them on credit, then i'd say you have a problem.

The only way possible I'd spend the asking price for this bike is if:
1. It had gear ratio options for 85gi and possibly higher. As I understand the highest ratio possible is 55:20 (~72gi), stock is 55:22 (~66gi). Way too low for a performance oriented bike.
2. Could be set up fixed
3. Had a fixed/fixed rear hub capability and could handle about a 10gi delta between 'cogs'

Maybe it does for some of these, but #1 & 2 (after price) are the show stoppers for me.

You already know the answer to that one. You put in the quote marks yourself.

PS, this is for wealthy dudes with Madones who want to see what the fuss is about but don't want to look undignified by riding the same bike as their sons.

Trek's 2014 line of Districts includes the aluminum singlespeed like mine, a similar aluminum 1x9, and a steel utility bike with disk brakes. I don't see any belt-drives at all from Trek this year.

This really is an urban bike, set up in fixed as my commuter.
