Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Good deal on Dawes 2009 sst 54 cm?

2009 Dawes SST 54cm bike. Hand built, high-strength, CroMoly Steel frame.

Purchased from bikesdirect.com in April 2009. https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/dawes/sst.htm. Assembled carefully, kept indoors and ridden less than 4 hours total. In perfect condition. Sell for $290. This is a very fast and lightweight bike. A good price for this beautiful machine.

SS = Single Speed. A SS bike is generally lighter and more-dependable than those with shifters & derailleurs. For maintenance, just keep the chain oiled, and this steed will be ready for action 24/7 for years to come.

Sheldon Brown: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/fixed.html

bikesdirect.com: ... Single-speed track bicycle ships with a freewheel, flip-flop hub and brakes so you can attach your own fixed gear if you like. Performance: The precision bearing wheelset is normally only found on bikes starting at $900. Comfort: Dawes SST can be set up for a comfortable upright position. Or, stretch out and get aero on the ends of the bull horn bars. Weight (per mfg) 21.5 lbs. Thanks.

$30 off, it's already assembled, and no shipping times? If it's truly in "4-hours-riding time" condition, go for it! I would definitely give the bike a once over for adjustment and whatnot beforehand.

Make sure the wheels are trued, and try to haggle a lower price when you get there.

Make sure it's the right size for you... it's worth 30 bucks to get the right one.
