If you bought a hoop that came dented, would you return it?
I bought a Velocity B43 hoop from Universal cycles and it came with a slight bend in the edge. My issue is that I've already laced, tensioned, and trued the wheel, so it'll be a giant pain in the ass/waste of time to have to tear it down, re-package, re-ship, and then start all over again with a new hoop. The damage is subtle, but there; when you have the wheel spinning you can easily spot the deviation.
The edge didn't start becoming obvious until I had the hoop in a decent round. It's probably repairable and doesn't bother me that much, but that may be because I don't feeling like going through the whole process of tearing down and rebuilding.
What would you do?

How much is "slightly?" Pic is worth a lot here.
FWIW put a towel over the edge of the rim, adjust an adjustable wrench just big enough to fit over it and *gently* and gradually work the dent out if it really bothers you and you want to keep it. I've done this on pretty ugly dents on friends' rims with good results.

Well I attempted to use a rag and really big pair of channel locks. I wasn't too crazy w this though, bc if I happened to ping the edge or make a mistake I'm killing any chance of a return.
I'll need to make a short video of it, bc it's hard to see when the wheel is stationary; on a scale of 1-10 I'd rate this little bend a 3.5. It covers about a 2" length and is super gradual. It looks almost like a pinch in the section of the rim, like someone pinched the edges together a bit, but the majority of the material moved over on the non-drive side.

I had almost the same thing happen with a Salsa Delgado I bought from Universal.
I decided to return the rim because I'm using it with a rim brake on a loaded touring bike, and I know that slight deviations in the sidewall can make for weird and annoying brake shudder. Fortunately, Universal is very good with customer service on returns; they paid return shipping and gave me a full refund. However, I am fairly certain that they proceeded to sell the returned rim as a new one.
If you are planning on using this with a rim brake, consider returning it. If not, then just ride it.

If it's pretty minor and easily fixable by yourself, it's probably not worth the trouble.

I'm leaning on keeping it. It's not going to be used with brakes. I shot an email to universal to see if they'll offer some kind of a discount on my next order, or to at least give me my options. I've built up my past 4 bikes using parts from their site, so hopefully they'll take that into account.
