Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

headset questions about Bianchi

I have a Pista and have a couple of questions about the headset.
I need to get a new headset, and was just wondering what size headset I need.
Its threadless, but is it a 1in or 1 and 1/8in threadless?
When did the Pista's switch to threadless headsets? Or have they always been threadless?

I'm pretty sure that its a 1in threadless but just want to make sure.
Thanks.

I was informed that a majority of threadless headsets are 1" 1/8'. Not sure about Pista.

EDIT: Quick search of the Bianchiusa website says 1" threadless since 2005 (Maybe earlier even, '05 is as far back as I researched).

sweet. thanks for the info. I completely forgot about the archives sections bike companies have of their websites.
So it looks like the Pista was switched to threadless in 2003 and the chromed bikes were introduced in 2004?

Can anybody confirm this? at this point, im trying to narrow down the year of this bike more than anything else.

It's a 1 inch threadless for sure. Chromed bikes were introduced in 2004, but their decals changed slightly within the years. Earlier chrome Pistas had white lettering, while the later ones had the black lettering behind a white background with the championship colors.
