surly steamroller sizing suggestion please

i am 5'6 with a 30 inseam. i can ride the 53 sized one at my lbs fine, but i am a bit stretched out. should i get the 49 or 53?

Ask the LBS to let you test ride it with a shorter stem, perhaps.

The steamroller has a longish top tube, so yes, try a shorter stem.

49 would be your best fit but 53 can work it’ll be just a little snug (I have the same measurements). If you’re feeling stretched out go with a smaller stem.
But 49cm would be your best fit, heck try one out.
