Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

BikesDirect!

Is there any competition between the Motobecane Messenger, Windsor Clockwork and Kilo TT?

My friend is also looking at the Schwinn Madison, on sale for $400 (plus shipping). He's kind of a cheapskate, so he'll want the best deal. I can't see him upgrading components. He wants a freewheel at first, and he may switch to fixed--so he'll definitely need brakes!

Suggestions?

Seriously, take 5 minutes in google and compare the bikes side by side.

Shill? Really?
shill (shl) Slang

One who poses as a satisfied customer or an enthusiastic gambler to dupe bystanders into participating in a swindle.
v. shilled, shill·ing, shills
v.intr.
To act as a shill.
v.tr.
1. To act as a shill for (a deceitful enterprise).
2. To lure (a person) into a swindle.
Come on now, he never said anything positive, negative or otherwise about BD. He merely asked a question and solicited an opinion from the masses about some bikes which all happen to be sold by BD. I agree that he should search but he could be new and not accustomed to using the feature. Not every thread about BD is someone trying to sell you on them

Anyway, sorry, guys. I forgot to search before post this time.

There is also the SE Draft, and the few offerings from Performance Bike under their company brand scattante.

I ride a Windsor Hour, love it and have had no problems. There is a 13432423423 page thread on Kilos, they look classy.

They're all roughly the same at each price point.
