Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Chainring question

After 40 years of riding road bikes with 5-10 cogs to choose from I'm looking to simplify things.
I converted the 91 Paramount to a Stronglight 36/48 five years back and the carbon fibre Motobecane from bikesdirect runs a 34/50
The issue is: 90% of the time I'm running the 36 (on the Paramount) or the 34 (on the Moto) and using the 14-18 on the 7spd (paramount) and 13-17 on the 10 spd(moto)
I looked at the mercien kilo stripped on Bikes Direct and love the simplicity(as well as the price..under $400 for a complete package with reynolds 520 frame) but the 48/16
ain't gonna work with these 67 year old legs.
The BCD of 130 is the same as the old school Sugino doubles and the sugino offered a 38t.
Will the inner from a vintage double (3/32) work? (I don't care if it isn't gold)
I looked thru a ton of links and all the single speed chainrings seem to go no smaller than 44t.

The inner ring should work fine. I'm running on the outer ring (3/32) of an old crankset on my bike and the chainline isn't perfect but it the bike runs smooth enough. The inner ring might actually line up better. There's also the option of switching to a larger cog in the rear for easier gearing. I've seen as big as 22t.
