If you're going to spend the money on Soma/Allcity/Wellgo/etc... you should check out exustars:
https://www.bikeforums.net/singlespeed-fixed-gear/589103-wabi-cycles-laminated-double-straps.html
I've had all-city doubles and after a couple months they were pretty beat up. The "leather" doesn't seem that durable (wear and tear) and they stretch and slip over time. Haven't had enough time on the exustars but I'm positive they will last longer, and they don't cost much more. Cadence also seems like a decent option that is more affordable than toshis.

Why Allcity/Somas are crap
I've been riding with the Allcity doubles for a little under four months now and they are trashed. There is no synthetic layer in the leather, they stretch, they come loose, if you like a snug fit you are constantly tightening them. I also somehow managed to bend the loops that hold the strap ends in place. I have had to go at the rivets and other steel portions multiple times with a wire brush to remove rust. The spring on one of the straps is so stiff I can barely tighten it anymore. Aside from that they keep my feet on the pedals, but I will be going clipless or purchasing a different brand in the near future.

When I say that the somas are crap what I mean is mainly that they stretch, a lot. I would tighten down my straps at the beginning of a ride and by the end they would have stretched out so much that they were loose. By the time they were retired they were so stretched out that I couldn't even tighten them down anymore. If the price is an issue I would say that you are probably better off spending $60 on toshi single straps than $40 on soma doubles.

those plemon buckles look like a brilliant way to prevent wear, increase adjustability, and tighten on the go.

in other news, my friend claims his toshis are on their last leg after six months. i will investigate.

Those buckles are nice but how is non laminated leather going to not stretch over time? Are you forgetting your [sarcasm] tags adriano?

I'm currently running a set of Wellgo double straps, which I'm pretty sure are what Soma/All-City slap their respective logos on. I haven't put a ton of miles on them yet but based on the quality and what I've seen from running a set of 4 Wellgo singles as ghetto doubles previously, they probably won't last super long. However, for the sub $20 price, I'm fine with replacing them every 6mo. However, next time around, I'm pretty tempted to try those Exustars.

What are All city clips like? I know the straps are garbage, but the clips look like they are ok. The money I save with them, I can get some Saglife doubles.

We all already know that somas suck ass. All it would take to sell you on anything other than all city's or soma's is to put the crappy cardboard-esque soma in your left hand and a toshi/MKS/Kashimax or even the Exustar or the Plemon in your right hand to feel the difference.

we already know how they'll turn out.
in six months, expect to buy new straps.
and in another six months, you would have spent enough to pay for toshis a single time.
you realize that some people have been doing this for awhile and might know what they're talking about, right?

I guess I just want to see for myself how these straps will function over time. Thank you for your advice.
I may be kicking myself later.

jpdesjar, did you not read this thread? Exustars for $38 to your door. Don't bother with anything less.
Like Mcarter24 said, rebranded somas. Stamped CKC on the bottom (oem?). They are a bit sturdier and thicker than MKS clips and can be found cheaper w/ double/quad gates. No problems with them yet (quads for 3-4 months and swans currently for a month).
Benscycle has them unbranded: https://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...c416b803eec961
My friend got a pair off ebay branded fubar. Under 20 shipped I believe.
