I want me a fixed gear bike
Hello, Im NiceMustache, Im new to bike forums, but not new to forums. So I know my way around a thread branching
I currently have 70's? schwinn varsity my dad bought as my high school graduation present. But I hit a pot hole, and need to aquire another bike....Got's a bent fork now.
Any suggestions on where to start? which bike to get? Make one out of an old road bike, or buy a new one? I have little bike knowledge-yet. But am open to learning!

for serious?
no one can tell you what bike to get. but, do these things:
1) spend a few weeks to a month reading this forum
2) use the search
3) hit up your local bike shops
4) ride the bikes, ask a lot of questions.
doing these things you'll:
a) learn a lot
b) see about 2 threads per day pop up exactly like this
c) ?
d) profit!
This is what I did, and recently decided on a Surly Steamroller. I wouldn't really recommend a conversion if you're a noob, it's probably better to grab a $300-400+ bike off the shelf and go from there.

I would just peruse this here message board, check out online retailers to see what they have available, go to your local bike shops and check out their merchandise (don't forget to take note of what brands they carry, as they will be able to order bikes even if they don't have the model you want), and most importantly, Sheldon Brown. If you have questions, either consult Sheldon or the search function here.
Local Bike Shops are going to be a life saver for you, and I promise that any extra you pay upfront will be saved in the long run.
https://www.sheldonbrown.com/fixed/index.html will be your new bible.

Mercier Kilo TT, IRO Mark V, IRO Angus, Bianchi Pista, Surly Steamroller, Soma Rush, Windsor The Hour, Schwinn Madison, Specialized Langster. Did i miss any? read SS/FG threads. browse through velospace. visit some bike shops. sleep. repeat. Then when you're ready, choose one and enjoy.

I say buy a $50 beater and deliver newspaper. Then do research for your FG bike. Why rush it?
