How far do you ride?
I was wondering how far most people ride their fixed/SS bikes at a shot. Today I rode 17 miles and considered it a mild workout. The first 7 miles is uphill a shallow but continuous grade and it started giving me a spanking at about mile 3. What is your average ride distance? and your farthest?

100 Miles..good work! I have been riding 3 months. My work and back commute is 6 miles, but I take long weekend rides. My longest ride was last week on my Trek 21 speed MTB and it was 28 miles. On Wednesday I am going for 30 on my fixed gear/SS.

Fresh Garbage
Every day 8 mile commute for both ways
The farthest I have taken my fixed gear was about 70 miles. I prefer my road bike for the long rides, it's just nice to ride lower gears after several hours.
Is distance as important as hours on the bike?

I usually ride seven miles in the morning, then do it ONE MORE TIME at night, plus other daytime rides. The commute takes about a half hour each way, not terribly fast because I'm not very AERODYNAMIC. But it's still faster than public transportation, which took me an hour. That is just TOO LONG.

My average getting around town day is like 40ish (17 miles to "work"). Workout rides can be either short and fast (I do a 20 mile perfectly flat out and back in 45 minutes that I'm pretty proud of) or I'll ride up into the mountains for 80 or so miles that takes me 6 hours. Just depends.

Ride distance can vary from 7-200 miles but obviously most of them are commuting rides, so more like 10-20 miles at a time, twice a day. With regards to choosing a FG or SS over a geared bike, its not distance...its hills that decides it for me. I'll ride any distance on a FG or SS, but once I start adding numerous steep hills or huge climbs, there's no point. I have road bikes for that.

Usually 10-20 miles round trip running errands and hitting friend's houses for bike talk, tea, and hang outs. Usually some diner hopping, etc. Weekends offer longer rides of course.

This thread wins for Daft Punk content.
I average about 12 miles a day total, but I tend to go balls-out the whole time. Sometimes on weekends I'll go at a more reasonable rate and a lot farther, but I don't have a cyclocomputer and don't generally care to measure ****.

Weekday commutes are about 8km each way plus a 20 or 30 km ride once or twice a week. Occasionally I do longer rides but not as often as I'd like.
This weekend past I did my first ride of over 100km on fixed gear. A brutal headwind made it feel much longer though.
