Reynolds Recon Track Wheelset?

Has anyone seen or ridden these?

I saw some on DepartmentOfGoods... the trouble is the price is $1300 (on sale from $2K) and the description starts with "Perfect for that sick Schwinn Varsity fix gear conversion..."

They're a carbon wheel, but appear fairly shallow (as far as carbon rims go).

I figured there was something quirky about the price. I couldn't find them anywhere else, or really any other information on them. I thought it odd to be advertising a supposed $2K wheelset, on sale for $1300 to be "perfect" for a varsity conversion.

Thanks

lol... they have the same marketing dribble on backcountryoutlet.com. sounds like it was reynolds who wrote that up. i've been seeing them every few days on sale.

They're often a bit sarcastic, though nowhere near as sarcastic as woot.com

how do you like them? i have a set of reynolds dv3kt on my road bike and love them. the rocons would probably be overkill on my kilo.

It's strange to me that the only place on Earth that sells them is Backcountry.com or one of its affiliate sites... I checked on Quality and they're not even available on there!

Reynolds doesn't even list them on their own website, nor are they in the 2008 or 2009 catalog...

oem?

I think they were going to be an OEM wheel.
Ryan sent me a little bit of info.

Recons are a full carbon clincher track wheelset, 32mm depth, round spokes (DT Comps).
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks,

full carbon clinchers scare me a bit, especially if they ever see the street.

So I've seen these wheels down to $400 on Bonktown. Has anyone else ridden them? What's your overall assessment?

Soil Sampler- How have they been so far? Have you ridden them exclusively on the streets for a while? Do they feel sturdy or do you have to baby them? Any pics?

They ride well to me as well. The swiss stop brake pads do a good job with stopping power.
