Local craigslist posting in my area has a Sunlite 15 Piece Tool Kit for 60 dollars Canadian right now. What do you guys have to say about this tool kit?

i use park tools because most of them are made in the country i live in. and they're good quality as well. i've never bought a kit though, just acquired new tools over time.

I went with a basic Park Tools SK-1 kit for $65 @ treefortbikes, and added a Park SR-1 chain whip and Hozan lockring wrench for $40 more. Oh and a Campy PB wrench and a Park PCS-10 stand. friggin set for now! doin my best to stimulate the economy.

I was skeptical when I heard Sunlite. But looking closer at it , it looks pretty good.
Sunlite Tool kit
# Hex head wrench set (sizes 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, and 6mm)
# Shimano lockring remover
# chain whip with BB Spanner
# Universal crank puller-fits splined or square cranks
# FW remover for Sram/shimano
# Universal BB tool fits Shimano or ISIS splined BB
# Universal spoke wrench.
Would be a good start to a tool collection. I love not having to go the LBS to have anything installed/removed.

Depending on what you want to do to the bike, you'll end up with much higher quality of tools buy purchasing quality tools piecemeal as you need them. I started with a tool kit from Pricepoint.com (Here is a link to the tool kit I purchased) Overall I feel it was a pretty good deal. Some of the tools are better quality than others but it has the essentials like a BB tool, crank puller, chain breaker, chain whip, lockring spanner, and some various wrenches. I promptly broke the pin spanner but how often do you really need a pin spanner when working on a modern bike?
To that I added some nicer spoke wrenches, allen wrenches, a cable/housing cutter, a park tool stand, and some various other tools both bike specific and general hardware tools.
I also can not say enough nice things about the Pedros Trixie tool. Some people on this forum have bad things to say about it but I picked mine up just after they were released last year and I have been quite happy with mine. In fact I often use the Trixie trather than my 'real' lockring wrench when swapping out cogs on the bike.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Pro Tip: I keep an old racquetball in my bike tool box for setting chain tension on my FG/SS bikes. I shove the ball between the seat tube and rear tire and it allows me to maintain the correct tension on the chain while keeping the wheel centered and tightening both axle nuts.

That's the same generic kit that nearly every retailer sells. I had the Lifu-branded one, and built several bikes with it. While I sold it to a friend after I got all my Park tools, it certainly was decent enough. One or two jobs, and it's paid for itself.

i have this one. it allowed me to build everything on my bike (except for headset pressing). the only sketchy thing with it is the headset wrench doesn't fit very well like it should: https://www.amazon.com/Brand-Home-Mec...ef=pd_sbs_sg_1
*edit* forgot the lockring tool blows, too. but other than that, it's a solid tool kit for being able to build a complete bike. even comes with a little patch kit.

A headset press is pretty easy to make with some threaded rod, nuts, and big washers. There's probably a million threads about that. I still bought a press though.

DO NOT, DO NOT buy this tool set. Sunlite tools are the worst I have ever used. When I first got into cycling I bought their allen wrenches, which rounded out in like 2 months. I also have used their crank puller, which stripped easily (yes I know how to use this tool and applied grease, etc). I have also snapped their tire levers. I know you are all gonna say "you are just clumsy/lead-handed" or whatever, but keep in mind that none of this has happened w/ park tools.
EDIT: I also own their pump, which blows (actually it doesn't, which is what makes it suck so bad).
i hate this damned company haha
