Eighthinch cogs and cranks vs. Iro?
I've lived off the search function for months and months, but finally have a question that doesn't seem to have been asked before.
I'm building up an Iro Mark V and wanted to know how Eighthinch 3/32" drivetrain products compare with Iro stuff. The prices are pretty close, but Wheel&Sprocket offers free shipping off eBay. Plus those Eighthinch cogs look pretty good.
Worth a try? Or just stick with Iro?
If you do find a thread I've missed--have mercy. I've tried. And had hundreds of questions answered without ever posting.
Thanks!

Your cog is slipping.
I just switched my drivetrain over to 1/8" and went with an EighthInch 18t cog & lockring. I'm impressed quite a bit with both of them and despite 1/8" chains and such supposedly being a little noisier, my drivetrain has never been quieter.

I've often wondered if there's a grey market in Taiwan that sells "factory seconds" of incredible frames and components for next to nothing.
Scrodzilla thanks. Looking forward to hearing how those parts are doing after you've put a few miles on them--I'm taking my time with this build.

No, no, Taiwan is a factory. Haha, but in all seriousness, I couldn't answer your question. But to respond to the OP, I think the difference (if there is one) between the quality from IRO vs the quality from EighthInch will be much less than negligible.

I have a brand-new EighthInch 15T cog and lockring that I took off when I got my bike, since I only plan to run singlespeed. The cog has never felt the cold, hard steel of a chain against it. PM me if you're interested.

Serously, the Eightinch cog is fine. I've used DA, Surly, Soma, EAI, Miche, and Eightinch, and generic cogs. I can't tell a difference.

IRO and Eighthinch probably go through Maxway who have different contractors for different components. You are correct: there are multiples "factories" that actually manufacture the goods, but small US vendors probably only deal with one entity themselves and chances are it's Maxway. That said, if they both deal with Maxway, the cogs are probably obtain through the same contractor / made by the same factory.

I know, right? I even didn't realize they did until I ordered a 1/8" cog and they sent a 3/32 by mistake. When I read the label on the bag it was in I was pretty confused.
