Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bianchi Track Hub for City Use

A track hub laced to a Mavic rim recently came up for sale on the classifieds in my area. I am interested in converting my bike to a fixed gear and this rim/hub would work. But I am curious about the differences between track hubs and regualar road hubs. What differences are there? Will this hub be alright for round the town city riding or are they less durable?

It is a bianchi track hub with dura ace cog.

"Track" just means fixed gear in this case. I bet it's an OEM hub from a Pista, which will be a basic sealed bearing hub that's quite roadworthy. There are a few track hubs that are really only intended to be ridden indoors but I doubt this is one of them.

It will work fine. I've ridden in the city for over a year on my stock Bianchi Pista hub with absolutely no problems.
