SE draft
I ordered a 49cm SE draft at performance bike today(its being assembled now). I bought it on impulse since it was only $210, but i havent picked it up yet. I know its hi ten (kinda junky) but its something I'll ride to school and serve its purpose. Your opinions?

Ride on McDuff, and damned be he who says "hold enough."

It rides nice actually. I think I could use this and not worry too much about it getting stolen, or it getting rained on at school. It could get me used to ss/fixed before I take a bigger investment. And actually, to me, its not too heavy.

$175 for a complete fixed gear is a deal, I'd say. if it's your first FG, i wouldn't complain! ride the hell out of it and worry about upgrading later.
although your riding experience will be greatly improved if you get some decent clips and straps. you can always migrate those to a new bike when the time comes, so don't be afraid of making the investment.

It was a singlespeed. It doesn't have stepped threading on the hub so no converting. It's not a flipflop either.

why would hiten last any longer than cromo or aluminum? just because it's heavy it's somehow more durable?
i'm thinking it's thought along the same lines that straight gauge spokes are somehow more durable than double butted spokes. it's a commutable bike, but i wouldn't say it's any more durable or more suitable for commuting than a 4130 frame.

I had a 2008 SE Draft for $190 to see if I would like SS. Yeah, it's not the sexiest, but it rides just fine...and you can lock it up without worrying about theft, ride it in the rain, and generally beat the hell out of it without worrying about your "investment". And, if it turns out you love SS, you can upgrade and feel fine that you got your $175's worth out of it while you had it. I don't regret the time or $ I spent on that bike.
