if this is not a joke

if it is, poor troll attempt.

EDIT: also, what do you have for a stem, as that dictates what you can have (due to the clamp diameter)

Colin255 12-08-09 06:16 PM

um i aint no troll. ive been using this site for a while, just reading, never really had any questions but its time to grab so new handlebars and since im a newbie to fixies im tryin seek some advice on what are some good pieces.

j3ffr3y: just some standard threadless 1.125...

Handlebar Butted 6061 Aluminum Anatomical Bend, 26.0 clamp
(49/52/54: 420mm, 56/58/61: 440mm)

the_don 12-08-09 06:23 PM

I think when he asked about the stem, I think he meant the handlebar diameter size it'll acceopt, not the head tube size.

Is your current bar a 31.8mm or 26mm?

Just get whichever bars you like the look of and get some good tape. Tape doesn't last all that long, so it's good for you to learn to do it. Get a tape with a silicon backing, they are easier to remove and good for learning, because if you get a tape that uses double sided sticky tape to secure, if you make a mistake, you will find it hard to correct any mistakes you made.

Specialized S-Wrap tape has silicon backing. I don't know about other brands that do.

I have Profile bullhorns, and they're designed for internal cable routing. The less expensive ones don't have that. Not sure if it matters, but it's a consideration.

Check out Syntace Stratos. You can get them with zero drop, 200 (medium drop), or 400 (deep drop). I've had them for a couple years now and love them. Have your bike shop tape your bars when you get them, you're not going to find any that are pre-taped.

tgscordv6 12-08-09 07:53 PM

no drop: Nitto rb018
drop: Nitto rb021, Syntace Stratos 200/400 (ergo design).

I also love those bars. I have the medium drop ones and they're very comfortable. I prefer them over my Nitto RB-021 bars.

Love my Nitto RB021's, not really bullhorns more like pursuit bars. Go with track grips and you'll never have to worry about bar tape!

Colin255 12-09-09 12:04 AM

I really like the design and overall layout of these two:

I ride with my hands right next to the stem so i rarely use anything else, but for some reason i really dont like the look of the single flat bars but neither do i have a use for the track bars... bull horns look the best imo, but i need ones that allow me to still keep my hands close. (used to ride dirtbikes, used to my small close handlebars on that.)

Yea, and I'll just buy some tape & learn to tape 'em up myself.

Germanicus 12-09-09 12:10 AM

Look out for those spanish made bullhorns.

WTF? Not one single person suggested grabbing some rams horns from the dumpster and doing a flip flop chop?

You guys make the hipster gods cry... LOL!

If the OP can't even wrap his own bar tape we thought it would be better if he wasn't using a hacksaw without adult supervision.

Tomo_Ishi 12-09-09 06:51 AM

Woo woo the first time I do this ...

Well Im willing to learn, lmao. Dont just assume Im some uneducated dummy who decided to buy a fixie to look cool, lol. I live in Northern Cali, and im moving to Germany next year, I dont need a car, this bike is an investment to me. Ive been doing tune-ups on it every single week since Ive got it, I want to learn it. Hook me up w/ some good websites to information and **** so I dont look like such a troll :]

Yo! 12-09-09 02:11 PM

1st: Determine your bar clamp. If you have a 31.8mm bar clamp, your options are limited (Deda, Profile Design, Dimension off the top of my head). Most of Nitto's offerings are 26.0mm. Check out the RB-021 for drop, or RB-018 for straight.

2nd: No bars come pretaped unless they're used and coming off a stem with a detachable faceplate.

3rd: Go to velospace.com and search for the specific model handle bar you're looking for; it'll come up with a bunch of examples for your viewing pleasure. You can even see a set of Nitto RB-021, 40cm wide, in my sig.
