Need some help finding 2-chainring crankset.

I'm thinking about doing a setup with the Surly dingle(17-19). They say to use a crankset with 2 chainrings with a 2 tooth difference(44-42). Can anyone help me achieve this? Looking for cheap stuff. Thanks, I'm open to anything.

Any road double will do. I recommend NOS cranks from eBay. Just replace the rings.

You can get 53/42 cranksets. Just get a 130 BCD ring in 44 and you're good to go.

Do you already have a crankset? Most "SS" cranks will allow you to run 2 chainrings -- such as the Sugino RD etc etc

As far as I'm aware Campagnolo cranks take a 135mm BCD chainring. Stick to Shimano and you'll be able to get a much wider variety of 130mm BCD chainrings.

I doubt a 42 x 17 or 19 ratio will be very useful. You will spin out at very low speeds (but will be able to climb walls). If you want some variety, you might try a fixed/fixed cog (or use it as an excuse to buy an extra bike )

+1 on not using the campys. You'll have a hard time finding a 44 in 135 bcd. Miche is the only decent one I know

i run campy cranks and while they are pretty, they do not leave many options for chainrings. ive got a 42t off of a racing triple on mine.

Oh, I think fyxomitosis makes a 135 ring, but it'll be about 85 bucks.
