Mavic Ellipse Rim Tape
I recently purchased a brand new ellipse wheelset which comes with this weird mavic rim tape, which is more of just a plastic strip than tape. My problem is that in the directions on how to put it on correctly it says you should make sure it's equal on both sides and not shifted off to one side or crooked. I just put on part of it and it's pretty much straight, but there is a little more on one side than the other.
I don't wanna put it on the entire wheel if i'm about to do it completely wrong, and I also don't want to have to pay my LBS to put it on for me. http://i50.tinypic.com/ohiyhh.jpg |

If it is a rim strip, there is no adhesive, and you can adjust it relatively easily. Then again, if it is a rim strip, how the hell do you just "put on part of it?"
/still, I prefer tape. |
it's like a yellow plastic strip with no ends so it goes all the way around the rim
(btw this question was directed towards mavic ellipse owners) |
Excuse me-- I had no idea their rim strips were so unique.

yeah it's weird. i could probably just use normal rim tape like that velox stuff that everyone seems to have but i'd rather not go to the trouble of doing that.

it's ****ing rim tape man, not brain surgery. put that **** on, make sure it's as straight as possible, and ride away.
this question is on par with the ones asking for the best way to remove the labels from rims. |
The other day while at work, my pants kept drooping a little bit (I've been using the trainer quite a bit and have dropped a few pounds over the past few weeks) and it was just annoying enough to cause slight grief. I had a belt in my bag but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to put the damn thing through my beltloops (there were no directions included with said belt) so I opted to use duct tape instead. It worked alright.

Everything is brain surgery at SSFG-- installing pedals, choosing seats, installing lockrings. Imagine if people needed derailleur adjustments!

Jan Ullrich had domestique hold a cap for him to poop into mid race. Can you beat that?

If it is not rim tape, it is a rim strip. Seriously, what is the issue here? If it is neither, post a pic so we can all learn something.

First, the valve hole has to line up with the valve hole in the rim. That one's obvious. Second, the rim strip has to cover every tiny arc of every single spoke hole. That's the one that people screw up. Then they get frequent flat tires that they generally blame on "a bad batch of inner tubes". Frankly, if your rim strip is very much narrower than the inside of your rim, I'd throw that dammed old plastic thing away and buy some Velox. |
