Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Yeah, that's just because the seller is an idiot to ship it USPS priority mail instead of UPS ground, which would be less than half as much. I just got a set of track wheels from Ben's Cycle, and the shipping was $12.35 via UPS ground! Still, if those tires go for only $10, then the total with shipping would be $37, which ain't too bad.

I'm sure those would look sharp on a new bike. But wouldn't they just turn a nasty gray after a few miles?

Yes. That's why you put them on an old (vintage) bike.

my guess is that these have wire beads and he doesn't want to fold them. the shipping price is the same as rims he has up for auction.

For sure, however, shipping would be cheaper by UPS ground in either case. USPS tends to charge by size whereas UPS charges by weight.

I have a set of white tires on my vintage bike and I ride it every chance I get, all I do is clean them up after every ride, not something that most are prepared to do but it works for me. =0)

This Semperit is 10 years old and still looks great. Like you said, just keep it clean.
