Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

My new bike, What do ya think

I just finished putting my first singlespeed together yesterday. I'd love to hear your input on it.

We have a sticky thread for this... think it's called post your SS/FG.

You might want to rethink that saddle angle but other than that it looks good.

I don't think that bike looks happy and am sure it's the saddle bringing it down.

That saddle definitely needs adjusting. Definitely.

Water bottle cage doesn't quite work but it's functional until a replacement can be found.

I'm no fan of that style of stem either but hey, you're up and rolling and that's what counts most.

Do fix that saddle, though. If that is comfortable for you, with all your weight being shoved forward on your hands, you may need to get a different stem. One a bit shorter and a bit taller. Check out the Nitto Technomic line. If you really must have black, lurk on eBay for those 80's black anodized stems. I've got one off my Fuso but it is faded.

Oh man I was looking at that stem today. Now I'm definitely glad I didn't buy it. LOL

And yeah, what the other guy said. Your bike is a very homosexual dude. Watch your back.

yeah, i know the saddle is at a terrible angle haha. but it was just how i slapped it together. Haven't really adjusted anything yet like the saddle or the bars.... oh why havent i.... that's right because outside looks like this.

Yes the bike is gay, but that's thanks only to the anal sex magnet i have attached to it... (highly recommended)

Yeah i agree that i need a new bottle cage, but that's the one that came with my frame so i just put it on until i get around to get a new one (not real high on my priorities)

and i'm getting so much **** for it because i deserve it... (infinite sadness)

Your bike looks fine. This place is hate central.

If it were mine I'd:

1) dump the bottle cage and stick my water bottle in my backpack, but that's because I think fixies with water bottle cages look odd.
2) swap the bar tape for some fresh stuff in black, white, or maybe chrome.
3) move the brake levers down a little bit. (The old school method was to set the bottom of the bars on a table, then move the brake levers down until the tips of the levers was even with the table as well).
4) get black toe clip straps.
5) as has been said already, adjust that seat.

You've got the basics down though, so that bike will be pretty sweet shortly.

Looks like a bunch of spares slapped together. But once you sort out the little things and make it your own, should be nice.

No offense, mate, but looking for approval from SSFG is one of the dumber things you could ever do. If you have a bike and you like it, you're set. Don't let the haters ruin your life, or your mood.

Your bike looks great (with the obvious and glaring exception of the seat angle. That really IS unforgivable).

well i'm not seeking approval, only taking feedback. i did make some changes as you can see below. I think all black looks excellent it turns out. i took off the toe clips and straps because until i get a fixed hub in the back i don't really need them (also i don't have black straps to match the bike.) Well here it is again. also the seat isn't pointing up, the picture just makes it look as that.
