I'm in the market for a single speed mtn bike for trail riding and rough offroading, but have no idea as to where to look for a bike or what to look for. If anyone has any info I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm on a budget and would like to keep it under $400 so a used bike would probably be my best bet, not sure though. I'm 6' tall if that is needed info too. Thanks in advance

FSCK YEAH! I have the Monocog - I love it but now my wife wants to steal it from me, it's just too fscking good, damint! We're approaching a family crisis because of that bike, that's how good it is to ride.

These frames were all designed by Sky Yaeger of Swobo. She designed the Pista Concept too.

Yeah I'm riding the '07, great bike. Best for the money IMO, and not to mention the frame/paint job is downright sexy...

We have the '07, too (brown with spinal cord). I have not seen the 2010 Monocog up-close. Looks like they dropped the spinal cord design? Who cares, as long as they kept the geometry.

Oh, btw, we have the 29er. I have a bunch of SS mountainbikes, and the one I built around the Monocog frame is the best. Unfortunately, wife agrees.

Ah, I'm just riding the 26. It's a real dark green. A guy I used to work with rode the Flight 29, and that was pretty dope as well, although it was way too small for me.

Actually just put some disk brakes on mine, need to upgrade more parts... all stock except for the fork/brakes.

If you're looking for a 29er, hands down the Bianchi SOK... Easton Ultralite tubing, Fox 29er fork with lockout (new ones have the poploc), disc brakes, and nicer cranks / wheels than the Monocog... Got mine for $750 shipped on eBay, my friend paid close to $600 for his monocog... No comparison... I would take the SOK every day hands down.

Agreed- I found a new (unridden) 2008 SOK for $800 on ebay-
After taking it out on the trails last week I realized its worth every penny! I love the way it handles & rolls over everything!
Research the measurements though. I'm 6'3" and fit great on my Large, so i think they run a little big (also comes in Med. & XL)
I can't believe they discontinued it for '10- Considering Bianchi pioneered the 29" (700c) mountain bike idea-
I believe the stock fork is a Rock Shox Reba SL, which is worth almost half of cost of what you can get these for on close-out-
I think its the sharpest ready-made SS 29er out there, mine's super deep metallic blue & its got the same black on white billboard graphics that
the Bianchi Pista has, so it looks like a Hipsta Pista on "Roids"!

I still haven't found out what SOK stands for, anyone know?

Excellent point, sir. The thing is, I always build my bikes myself - I buy the frame and add the parts I have lying around, and usually get a good deal on the frame (I never spent more than $320 on a bicycle frame, not once in my entire life). I got the Monocog frame and fork for $250. So my views may be a bit biased.

But I still think a Redline Monocog should sell within the budget of the OP.

Here is a thread from back when I was in the market for a 29er (2007), and as you can see, the prices mentioned matched the OP's budget.
