Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Kazane KZ1 144bcd crankset

Are they any good? $130 tag puts it in Sugino Messenger pricerange. Just caught my eye since it's 144dcb and the spider looks kinda like dura-ace and stronglight. Searched and didn't find any mention of these cranks on ssfg or really anywhere else. I know theire KZ2 model is just a rebadged Andel (like the Alien, Traitor, etc...) so is this one a rebadged something too?

Comes in black...

...and gunmetal

...and gold and red.

I just bought one from Team Kazane. I like it; it's pretty and light and comes with a nice chain ring. The IRD/Tange BB is nice too. The style reminds me of older Campagnolo cranks, which is also a bonus.

yeah. i love mine.

CORRECTION: No, i have the original kazane crank, which they now call the KZ2. not the KZ1.

i've had the original kazane crankset for what... something like two years now, and counting. great set of arms but i got mine for something like 80 bucks. for anything over 125 i'd spend the extra for a pair of ominums.

unless you like the square taper digs and that clasic look, or stupidfresh colors... i mean, mine are great cranks but to a certain extent that's because i've got them on the UN53 sealed bb. if these have a unit like that, i'd assume they're just as nice or nicer than the first kazanes, which were basically andels.

i dunno. they're nice. mine were a steal at 80 dollars. at 130, the KZ1 must be either much better than my KZ2 version, or just look that much nicer and have a better BB. i'm sure they're just as good or better than mine.

here you see how different mine are:

I'm just not sure which way to go, b/c I'm ready to upgrade my Pake cranks. New ones need to be black, so if I stick with square taper was pretty much looking at either these or Sugino Messengers for the same price. If I go external bb, which I love on my FR/DH bikes, I'd go w/SRAM Omniums since S300's look like a$$ to me, but a set w/black cranks is over $200.

I'm getting the Andels. They'll be here this Friday. Paid $105 for the cranks and $20 for their BB. I'm interested to see how they look in person.

Pretty sure those Andels are rebranded as the Kazane KZ2 like cc700 has.

I dunno. Look at the pedal mounts. The Kazane has a recess, but the Andel doesn't.

the KZ1 do, the KZ2 doesn't. the KZ2, the ones i have, are anodized andels. they're exactly the same with a different chainring.

solid cranks. Amull, get a decent 40 dollar bb for the messengers. the stock sugino ones creak and suck after weeks.

Well even without any feedback on the KZ1, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger. Found it brand new with a cheapo Tien Hsin sealed bb for $100 shipped. Seems worth a try?

i'd pull the trigger, but strongly reconsider actually using such a cheap bb. a good bb makes a world of difference on a fg.

I'm actually trying to get the crankset for less w/o that bb, and look for something else. My current budget sealed Shimano UN54 has started creaking since it's pretty old, and is the wrong spindle length anyways.
