And anyway, I don't buy the premise. Big Shot Bikes offers a unique service - a cosmetic color coordination service that no better company offers, as far as I can see. If people are willing to pay to get the color bike they want, it seems to me that Big Shot Bikes have simply cornered that market.

And I don't buy the premise that BSB bikes are 'crap'. They are low-end bikes, but so what? No bike is 'crap'. Even the low end ones have value, in that the frames are rugged. Yeah, they're heavy and their components will need replacing more regularly than those of a high-end bike, but the components are cheap enough that you can replace them 5 times over for the same price you might pay for 'non-crap' components. So who's getting ripped off really? I'm not so sure it isn't the guy who buys the racing quality stuff and who sneers at low-end bikes.

You simply don't see the allure in getting a bike that's color coordinated to your personal specs. As far as I can see, that's your problem, not that of Big Shot bikes or their customers.

The way I see it is: the only advantage Big Shot Bikes got going for them is the color choice coordination of parts and frame, other than that there is better deals out: in $ value, lower weight and higher quality.

Regardless of the brand: I dont like the matchy-matchy, neon-colorific track bikes regardless if its Big Shot or 3Rensho:

And that's a perfectly valid and respectable opinion. It allows that some of us might value color choices over other attributes even though it makes clear that you wouldn't make such a choice for yourself.

Alright so I'm new here, and first post. Hi guys! So I looked this thread up after hearing about bigshot and have read it all the way through. Most of you don't recommend big shot, but I haven't seen anybody who has actually had one post. Is it mostly because its hi-ten? Is there any downside to that other than a few extra lbs of weight? Does that bike have cheep welds etc. Also does anyone know if the component are actually low quality or are they just simple. Honestly I just want a bike to commute on and not worry if it gets a little beat up siting around locked.

I appreciate your help!

I'm also new here and just had to throw my 2 cents in. THE GOOD: I own 2 BigShot bikes. Personally I think they're pretty freakin cool for what they are. Cheap and decent bikes that look great. So far I haven't found any other dealers that do what they do... You click on the color combos and hit the order button, so simple. Yes, I will admit the quality is not the greatest but luckily with one gear there really isn't much to go wrong. The first one i bought (all white) rides great. So far I've got about 200 miles on it without incident. It rides very fast, feels solid and light. I just purchased their "Dreamer" bike since it went on sale for $300. It looks so much better in person than the fancy pix on their website. I was really surprised by how good the welds are on this model. The frames are 4130 chromoly. The anodized parts are sick. Even if you toss every component on the bike it's still worth $300 for the frame. Personally I think if you just buy a few and hang them on the wall they are still worth the price just to look at. Also if one gets ripped off at the 7-11 or my garage I woud not feel bad. I would feel like I helped some poor kid that didn't have a bike. THE BAD: OK the downside.. After oogling over the beauty of the frame and the sweet teal anodized aluminum parts the rear wheel isn't true (pfft, this can be fixed) and there is a wobble on the front chain ring (not cool. Spinning the pedals reveals a chain that tightens then loosens. Something is definitely off-center. the bb or the chain ring or both). I have sent an email to bigshot and included a detailed video of the issue. We shall see how their customer service is and I will follow up with you all. BOTTOM LINE: Definitely worth the price.

I purchased one. Huge mistake. It was my first and never again from big shot. I agree with the other threads; you are paying for the color combination. i had 5 flats in one day. It was the rim tape. I replaced the rim tape with high end rim tape and doubled it. how ever the next day i had a flat on the rear. Every dollar i saved i spent almost twice on repairs. I replaced the tires, tubes and rim tape. Not worth it. the bike cost me 300, plus repairs and upgrades i spent an additional 300 pluss. I should have bought high quality the first time. Now the crank crase is not very good.I stopped putting money into it. I wont recommend any brand. Just not his one. or similar comapanies. Respect to the founders for trying to give good quality, but they failed. You get what you pay for. Oh and notice how you can not rate big shot on google. They are not stupid.

$69 for a whole kit is very cheap. If I didn't care about advertising for companies I don't believe in, or quality, I'd definitely pick up two of them.

$40 for a bootleg kit from China off ebay. Mine has held up for over a year. Money well spent

Yeah, I know a bunch of people that have used them for decent amounts of time (6 months-1 year+).
I just purchased my first cycling specific bottoms and consciously spent extra money to buy American made items.
