Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

is it weird that the geared bike thread on the SS/FG forum is one my favorite threads on bikeforums?

i still ride fixed, but more about road bikes lately. especially somewhat vintage ones (not like, C&V old timey vintage, but like...early 90s vintage lol) of course theres the road bike forum...buuuut its a bit too, spandexy new school older guy fred-ish haha if that makes sense.

i want a "ex-psuedo hipster 30 something year-olds that grew out of the 'sweet fixay' phase and appreciate nice road bikes and are just starting to wear bibs" forum ....or something. i dunno i should get back to work

The road forum sucks because in there anything that is over 5 years old and has >25mm tires is slow and obsolete.

I'm a huge fan of 90's roadies! but they don't get much love in either the road forum or c&v

my preference is about 85 to 96 and my two bikes in that range have been accepted by the c&v group. there is a lot of love for that era of bike over there.

They also claim to do 28mph pulls with 33mph sprints over 10 minutes long.

I personally love 90's roadies, and if you can go fast on a carbon machine, you can do it on a 90's roadie. I had a bridgestone radac (circa 1991 i think) and it was every bit as fast as my carbon rig which I bought in 2011 (but nowhere near as comfortable). The only difference were the downtube shifters (but I love those).

Haha! Biopace chainrings! I had one on my first first gear bike.

Heh, yeah I think they're kind of silly. I just don't have any good reason to change them out unless I come across some smokin' deals on drivetrain stuff.

I was riding the other day along the river, averaging 21-22, but pushing pretty good on my awesome 93 c'dale i love to death. Then all the sudden a 55+yo guy, pretty big guy really, just smokes me on a late 70's - early 80's road bike. Im like ****, he put me in my place lol. I tried to keep up but, nope
