2006 Gunnar Roadie with True Temper OX pipes

At first I was against having a semi-compact bike, but the deal was pretty nice and it was my size so I went for it. Seller said it didn't have many miles on it and it's near mint paint job confirms it. Swapped everything from the X-check to get this rolling. Super happy with how it fits, but just need a longer seatpost since this one's a few mm's past the minimum line (the saddle angle works fine). It's a respectable 19.5 lbs with the piggy weight of the Brooks and the "freddy" X-top levers (I freakin love top levers).

yeah I kinda preferred how the X-check looked as well and it's still around, just gonna take on a different look along with becoming a fixed rider. I wanted a lighter weight geared bike though so when I saw it for around the same price as a crosscheck frameset, it made sense to me.

not mine exactly, but I found it, bought it, finished restoring it, and will have to maintain it. 1988/89 Fuji Absolute SE, made for super small people. My tiny gf loves it since she really wanted an 80s steel frame that could actually fit her. Wacky sized front wheel, no toe overlap, check.

Curiously not a terry bike, as note the front wheel a terry uses is 24x1 or 520ISO. Whereas this Fuji uses a 24x1.25 or 547ISO wheel. This Fuji also uses a 27 wheel in the rear and not a 700c.

Very curious, but also unique as Fuji only made this particular size for one or two years. Before coming across this 'barn find' I had never seen one and I wouldnt be surprised if I never saw another Fuji like it.

But you are correct, same exact design principal that Terry Bikes(tm) uses.

grifos are great cx tires but you won't clear too much mud through those calipers. still, get rad on some dusty dry singletrack and tell us what you think!

Just off-roading. As Charlie said, I won't be clearing much mud through the calipers (or the frame/fork for that matter). A big difference from the 120psi road tires I'm running, ha.

Hitting up KickaPOO in a couple weeks. If the MTB isn't done by then, I'll be taking this.

i have a huge soft spot for vitus 979s, and the fact this is mostly all mavic parts is pretty awesome too. did the frame come with those mavic stickers? love those cranks too.

^Thanks. It's a 787, notice the "mono-stay" and longer down-tube "lug", etc. The frame did have those stickers but they were trashed. I was able to source some new ones here and there. The frame was painted red all around(also trashed) instead of the typical anodizing. I thought on it quite a while before deciding to strip and polish the rear triangle and head tube/"lugs". Was pretty laborious, but I'm glad I did it. The paint/decals on the main tubes are still pretty chipped up but I think it adds "character" and I can't find the right replacement decals. Thought about some Mavic cranks but the Stronglights are just too awesome and they're French, so they're staying.

P.S. - The wheels are mismatched and temporary. I've got a pair of Mavic 500RD hubs but need some Mavic 28h rims to build them up. Any one got some they want to part with?

-Andy
