Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Requesting a pic of your FG and that bike next to each other

Edit: This thread of geared bikes is more interesting than the Road 'post your ride' thread.

Nope, love it.

For some reason the paint scheme on the Vigorelli gets a lot of hate, but I think it's awesome. I'd rock the hell out of this bike.

Interesting thread. I figured any geared bikes ridden by the fixie kids would be crap. I definitely didn't expect to see a beautiful Bruce Gordon frame with full Super Record -- although the mountain bike pedals are...wrong.

Here are a couple of my randonneuring bikes.

+1 to this. How many variations on the "full carbon with $4000 wheels" are there anyway? This is a pretty darn nice selection of bikes right here.

Six Jours: Isn't it nice when your negative assumptions are proven wrong? I loves it. Beautiful bikes as always BTW, I long for the day when I have workspace again so I can try swinging a torch around.

I've got one of these in pieces in my garage (picked it up cheap, took it apart to clean it, just about to get back to it). It's not in near the condition yours is in, but it should clean up nice. Any recommendations on rebuilding it?

haha,

the cassette, chain, and RD had about 20mi on them when i took that picture. i am anal about keeping it clean though. white lightning clean ride helps a lot

ive only ever seen four of these silly string paint jobs:
mine
one my mom had
one on RAGBRAI in the early 90s
one in a picture on the net

its either
A. rare
B. ugly

either way its not valuable but i still love it

edit:

the point of the picture was to see if anyone caught that i was using an 8spd record shifters and cranks with a 10spd cassette and derailleur

Went on our first shakedown ride this weekend... needed all 24 of those gears as I saw everything from slush and snow to off road to long expanses of dry smooth pavement and also had to deal with some insane headwinds for the last 20 miles of my last 60 miles.

Figure that I had 40-50 pounds of gear including refreshments... and used to do the same thing on this bike when it was a fixed gear.
