Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Who says Aerospokes are only for hipsters.

I spotted this guy racing at the Alkek Velodrome in Houston, TX on Aerospokes and some cromo street fixie frame. So much for the myth that Aerospokes are only for hipsterz doing trickx.

I think twisted spokes more speaks of hipster-ness than aerospokes.

I think it's true. I never seen anyone ride that stuff other than hipsters. ... Or me who just didn't have the right spokes to use ... (because I knew no better)

I live in DFW and mostly race at the Superdrome in Frisco, but occasionally head down to Alkek. Actually, I was just visting on Friday night and didn't race. The photo was posted on the TXBRA Velodrome forum. Most of the Friday nite racers were Aggies.

Maybe because they're overpriced pieces of junk? Most (normal) people ride bikes that cost less than a single aerospoke wheel.

I like my aerospoke for practical purposes, even though I find the aesthetics pleasing as well.

Heavy yes, but strong and low maintenance, perfect for my lousy streets. I don't mind it. I'd spend just as much on a front spoked wheel anyway.

Wow. That guy is huge. That bike is at least a 58 and he dwarfs it - in matching CAPO kit no less. I don't see any tats so probably not as hip as some might think. I'll give him props for racing a miniature bike. LOL.

??? that's a jackass myth if it is one. aerospokes were on the velodrome years before "hipsters" were doing anything.

People have been using them on horse carts (like the pic Haagenize posted) for probably just as long too.

true, but they were well into the nashbar garbage clearance bin, where they pretty much rightly belong, until they were revived by fixie culture.
