anyone know if a 2010 madison sized XS will be too small for me? I am 5'7". I currently ride a road bike that's sized 54cm but I do feel a little stretched out. The stand over height on the madison is slightly higher and but the top tube is shorter by about 30mm.

its pretty easy. just make sure you check and make sure everything is nice and tight. tighten cog, lockring, pedals, everything... when i put mine together it took maybe 20-30 minutes.

no you dont. it comes with spacers and all that good stuff. if you want to dial it in and drop the stem lower then you can cut it. but out of the box you dont have to.

the only part that slowed me down on my '09 was the headset assembly. everything else was obvious.

I also just bought a '10 Maddy and spent about an hour assembling it. Is there anything I should know about the components? Like any notoriously poor components that I should change out immediately or things that will give me a hard time?

Congratulations! You should post some pictures of your lovely new bike.

Change parts like saddle or pedals or bars/stem if they are not comfortable.

It depends. I am 5'7" and I ride a small. The S.O. is barley there for me and the TT feels bait short. I have nag body proportions, but slightly longer arms.

My upper torso is longer than my lower portion.

My package came today but it was in the maroon/yellow color...

Nashbar only showed the brown/gold color when I ordered. I should be able to return this, right?

Although the maroon color does look less flashy (which i like).

I ordered one last week from Nashbar too thinking it would be the brown color scheme and opened it today finding the burgundy. I talked to someone and they said it wouldn't be a problem to return it and they should cover the shipping cost as well. I really like the bike, just not sure if I want it in this color. Sucks that nashbar only has the red left

Ya I bought it from nashbar over the new year weekend. I was expecting the burgundy/white color scheme though. Already getting compliments on it and since very few people here in south florida ride fixie, almost no one has ever heard of a madison.

how tight are you supposed to screw in the bars?

Are the bolts supposed to be flush?

If you are talking about how much you should tighten the bolts on your stem, then it should always have a little gap between the stem and the clamp.

I try to get the same gap top and bottom. As to centering the bar, I measure from the center of the stem to the end (width) of the bar, and try to get the same measured distance. Sometimes those printed marks on the bar are off-center anyways.

It's really hard but I just use my eyes to guess or you could use measure tape to use a as a guide.

EDIT:What TT said.
