Fixed gear tire recommendations/suggestions/poll kind of...

Alright, I've been researching for a while and I couldn't get a clear answer anywhere.

I've been riding a fixie for about 4 months now. My bike's from bikesdirect. Dawes SST for those of you who are curious. I usually just ride back and forth to school and go on occasional rides and go to the beach every now and then which isn't too far from where I live.

The tires this bike came with are these Kendas. I feel like they're gonna die pretty soon. Well.. the back one at least. The front tire still has some life in it. I skid occasionally. I usually stop with by counter-pedaling. I use brakes only if I have to. My back tire is smooth as hell and the center of the tire (the part that rolls on the ground the most) is really soft. I only got one flat though. But yeah, I feel like my back tire needs to be replaced in the next few weeks.

I'm only in high school and I'm on a pretty tight budget. I've been looking at the Conti gatorskins, or vittoria tires (specifically the randos). I read the gatorskins have low rolling resistance and have a long life and can handle skids pretty well. Skidding isn't my main method of stopping so a gatorskin would be really good for me. My friend's got a rando on his bike. He told me they are really cheap compared to the gatorskins, durable, but are heavy as hell.

How's the rolling resistance on the randos? What are the pros and cons of both tires? Would you think it would be better to spend the extra cash and go with the gatorskins? or just go with the randos?

I've used gatorskins and randos, I prefer the randos, however my new ride wont sport 28s anymore so i've just been running CST czars which I can get for free, and have been surprised by how pleased I am with them, dead cheap too

Quite happy with my michilin erillium 2's. I've ridden the CST czars, they're decent for the price.
