Shimano 600 pedal question
 

I really like the sleek look of the Shimano 600 pedals

But I don't want to wear cleats...

Are there any other pedals that would work with cages and straps alone that look like this?
Would I look like a total ass using these without the proper shoes?

I have a set of these right now in my parts box. And I've used a set in the past with toe-clips and straps and street shoes. They work fine with street shoes. They are very high quality pedals. Shimano 600 later became Ultegra.

The cleats are a bit hard to find anyway.

The MKS-Gr9 was brought up again on the other thread; these are excellent pedals.

I use these pedals exclusively on my roadie and FG. They're super comfy, and fairly secure sans cleats.

You won't look like an ass using them without cleats...trust me. No one will notice.

You could always step up to the Dura Ace 7400 pedals. They look very similar.

There were Shimano clips that fit that bolt pattern on top. Finding them is a different story.

they work fine with clips and straps. for the record they aren't "shimano 600" pedals, they made those pedals in several grades... 105, 600/ultegra, dura ace... beware some of the dura ace though, they came with that crazy oversized pedal threading

you can find plastic straps for these new, but metal ones require some digging. ebay and swap meets are the best place. i probably saw 3-4 pair at the trexlertown bike swap this past weekend.

I have a set of the 105's on my Schwinn and they suck balls, the little "V" clip digs into your shoe as does the little "lip" sticking up at the rear, very very uncomfortable, I actually got two blisters on my left foot after a short ride! Even if you get the steel toe clips you still have the little "lip" thingy to deal with! I'm def swapping them out for a set of MKSGr9's.

plastic strap works fine and is a bit lighter (if that ever matters ;D)

What do the cleats even look like for these pedals? I have a couple of them and some of the 105s too, they are nice.

If you happen across the Dura-Ace EX ones, avoid them. They have a proprietary threading size that requires you have the matching crank.

I've been using these pedals for the last year and a half with cages on them, they're great pedals. I've had no problems with them/have no complaints.

They were intended to be used with real cycling shoes with hard soles and slotted cleats.
