Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Need Help On Purchase Decision!!!

I found a Dawes fixie with flip/flop hub brand new for $259. Not a bad deal. Has following specs....

FRAME & FORK: 4130 CHRM-MOLY WITH EYELETS, RACK BRAZE-ONS, AND WATER BOTTLE BOSSES
WHEELSET: FORMULA ALUMINUM SS/TRACK FLIP-FLOB HUBS; ALUMINUM DOUBLE-WALL RIMS WITH CNC SIDEWALLS; STAINSTEEL SPOKES WITH BRASS NIPPLES
CRANKSET: LASCO ALUMINUM TRACK CRANK WITH REMOVABLE OUTER GUARD & REMOVABLE 46T CHAIN RING
BRAKESET: ALUMINUM DUAL PIVOT ROAD CALIPERS WITH QR & ALUMINUM LEVERS
GEARS: FIXED GEAR 16T WITH LOCK-RING AND FREEWHEEL 16TH [BOTH INSTALLED]
TIRES: KENDA 700x25C
COCKPIT: ALUMINUM HANDLEBARS, ALUMINUM AHEADSET STEM, & ALUMINUM SEATPOST
SADDLE: VELO ROAD WITH COMFORT DESIGN & BUMPER

The specs look decent. I'm trying to rationalize whether to buy this or a Schwinn Madison which is about 100+ more. Thoughts? Opinions? Criticisms? You fixie fanatics know what's good wayyyyy more than I do. I appreciate your help. I'm trying to become one of you!!

A schwinn madison beats a dawes anyday..... and $100 isn't that big a price difference considering between the two....

I just hope the OP's delay in responding is caused by his acquiring and enjoyment of his schwinn madison.
