Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

battery op. Front Light, kinda retro Silver Bullet-esque? recommendations??

Hi!

I am curious if anyone can point me in the right direction....
I am looking for a front light in the quasi-vintage style BUT battery operated...any suggestions on a brand/model/store to find such a thing? It seems this style of light is usually powered by one of those special dynamo front hubs, which i do not have.

also, mounting is potentially an issue, i am running 1 1/8th inch threadless fork....

this is basically what i am talking about:

PS check out that horn!!!

btw here is my bike:

anywho any suggestions are greatly appeciated.
i guess if i have to i will just got a little knog light but would prefer a light that fits with the aesthetics i am after....ok thanks!

I've got one off an old huffy 3-speed. It uses a D-Cell battery and does not offer much in the way of actual light (think weak flashlight). As for mounting on a threadless headset... dunno.

Also, that horn is nice, but everything about that setup seems "off"... is that a rear rack mounted to the fork?

Just get an old style light and a small LED flashlight and put the flashlight inside the housing.

that might be what needs to happen but if something already exists out there its worth the time saved trying to construct one to just buy one.

I purchased two of these not too long ago. One went on my cruiser, the other on the ex's (sigh) cruiser. They are powered by 9v batteries. I ride quite a bit in evenings, and have noticed solid battery life. My one major complaint is that after riding around a bit with the light mounted, the system that switches between "hi, "low," and "both" beams is loose. When I say loose, I mean that the points on the switch that select between modes are finicky. I ended up doing a small DIY mod to fix the issue...as I'm sure you could do also.

Enjoy.

thanks, actually i was just looking at that very light!

just curious, how do you have it mounted? reading the few reviews available, it seems it is able to mount to the handlebars, but i do not have room on my bars to mount it, and besides, i would prefer to mount it on the fork.
