Hello bike forums community. I recently got interested into fixed gear bikes and I was wondering if anyone could help inform me with what I need to know to build myself one. Also, as a note, I don't have piles of money for me to spend. I'm just another poor college student trying to find a more pleasurable and efficient way to get to class and around town. If you are interested in fixing your own bike, I'd suggest to invest in a good set of tools too. Very very handy and will last you a good long while and save you money for bike shops fees and such.
It will be costly if you want to build one yourself; however, it is a fun, enjoyable experience that you can keep forever.

Thanks for the welcoming. Well if building my own were to cost me a little bit of money, what would be a good pre-assembled bike that I could replace the parts one by one with?

the bikes from bikesdirect.com are popular low-cost bikes, especially the Kilo TT.

kilo is fine for city riding, I dont have one, but lots of others do and have it for city riding. Hell, I even ride my team track on the road.
