garret's bike (mash)
I've seen a couple of MASH SF videos and been to their website, but I never really knew anything about the riders until recently. This guy who rides for mash, Garret, has a really cool looking bike. The front rim is mega deep, does anybody have any clue what it is? The only thing similar to it I can find is a Zipp 1080, but I didn't think you could get carbon sandblasted/powdercoated...

- Riser bars
- 650 front wheel
- Road riding
- iPhone
- Watch
- Race helmet

you can't mediablast/powdercoat it.
abrasives don't tend to 'rub off' so well on ceramic lattices.
heating the coat is no problem because carbon is... like most ceramics... extremely resistant to thermal effects.
charging the air surrounding carbon is, however, probably the biggest challenge were one to try this. forget the abrasives, if you don't understand why you can't powdercoat a ceramic you don't understand powdercoating.
wikipedia powdercoating if you feel i'm being harsh.
if you're still in the dark, repeat highschool physics and chemistry.

I don't think Carbon Fiber is a ceramic. It is a composite with the Carbron and a Resin/Hardener. I've never heard it described as a Ceramic tho.
Carbon Fiber can not be powder coated because the Powder Coating process requires a magnetic charge for the Coat to initially stick to the part before baking. Being that Carbon fiber is not magnetic...
Is it possible those are Reynolds wheels? The logo looks similar.

HAHAHAHA what the ****. Doug is awesome. This picture is golden. Mosquito is a bad-ass. Disc wheel and a tri-spoke. D:
Take it easy, cc700! I doubt a kid fresh out of high school would understand why you can't powdercoat carbon fibre. I don't even understand it, nor do I try to. I can only bet the only reason why you know so much about it is because you've a) known through experience or b) read extensively about it. it's not common/fundamental knowledge. so chill out.

i worked fabrication for 8 years If you did blast the CF wheel you'd break the weave and it's be worthless..like others said you can paint it, but i wouldnt sand past the gelcoat though because it will not take to the paint well, and like someone else said you can heat it higher than you can aluminum, because it has excellent heat properties.
I think it looks pretty nice, i would have put the deeper wheel on the rear(assuming he has it) and the lighter one on the front, but i guess this way it'd distribute the weight out better.
ceramic is CF? haha that's news to me, it's a carbon weave... that's why it's so damn corrosive on metal when put together with it on say a chain stay or something like that.

composite might be more precise language but the idea i'm trying to get across is that you can only powdercoat metals.
