My New Toy (First Fixie)

I picked up a 2006 Giant Bowery for 250 off of CL this weekend, and I've got some pics:

It's definitely an interesting experience riding fixie. The only thing I've had trouble with are the steep hills. I'm fine with most hills, but there are a couple that have me either walking my bike or riding the brakes.

Some people would probably buy a ****ty conversion for 250, you did mighty well with that 250.

I thought it was supposed to be a seagull...isn't it?

You're missing an "L" on your title thing, not trying being a dick or anything, just pointing it out.

I'll be getting another waterbottle cage later, so I'm not concerned about the screw holes. Thanks for all the compliments guys. So far it's been treating me well. My only gripe is it rides harsher than my Elance. Maybe a new fork would help? I'm pretty sure this fork is chromoly.

Go carbon on forks, Nashbar has one that's quite nice, $100, but cheaper with a coupon. Not sure what it is though, might want to look through the coupon section.

I saw a carbon fork at performance going for 80 https://www.performancebike.com/bikes..._1032950_-1___ They're also running 15% right now. I don't have the money right now, but it might still be going when I buy it. Will a new fork smooth out the ride? I noticed that my wrists were a bit sore after my latest ride.

Oh yea, the Forte Axis was mentioned on some other post earlier too.

Anyhow, carbon forks do absorb road bumps and whatnot but carbon forks might not be the root to your solution. Are you comfortable fitted on your bike? If you aren't, watch one of those fitting videos online, tires are also known to improve the comfortability of your ride.

This should set you to the right direction.

It may not be perfectly fitting, but I can definitely tell that it rides harsher than my Elance, which has a steel frame/fork. I'll look at trying to get the fit better though. Only thing I've adjusted so far is the saddle.

Not trying to imply 'newbieness', but appying the brakes alternately on a decend will keep the rims from overheating and causing a possible blowout. And those hills you're having trouble with now will level out as your technique improves. Nice find, btw! Classy looking ride.
