Park's polylube 1000, I just have some laying around anyway.

Yes other kinds of non - bike specific bike grease will work aswell.... not sure which brands are preferred tho.

Grease is something you buy once every few years, so if you wanna "splurge" and spend 15 bucks on a tube of the Phil Wood grease, nobody is going to think less of you.

I just went to home depot and got a tub of this, though:

Will run you about six bucks and last a decade.

multi-purpose.

I just never ever saw the value in Phil's grease since they buy it and repackage it from a no name supplier and triple the price.

the Park Tool polylube grease stained my bianchi's seat tube a little green right at the top where the seat post goes in... there's nothing I can do about it, somehow it stained the paint. Anyways, now I just super lube grease for ball bearings and threads...

No no. Not like that. I just mean for $4 you could have gotten a big tub of good Cambodian Tire grease.

When I was a kid we went down to Victoria and popped into the "big" bike shop and my buddy bought some Phil grease. He rebuilt his coaster hub with it. Lasted 3 days or something and it cooked. I just never really bought into the amazing properties.

Slick 50. It's been around through a couple automotive wheel bearings...and so, so many more bicycles.

Park Tools PPL-2... it's working fine for me at the moment. I pretty much disassembled my bike and put it on every thread, minus the parts I don't have the tools to disassemble.

I use it for everything. It's more expensive than most greases, but it's not like I can't make the rent by using Phil's. I bought a tube for $9 several years ago and it'll probably last through another season.

If I'm using it for lubrication, I use the lithium grease shown previously in this thread. For threads, I use anti-seize...good stuff, but don't get it on your clothes.

Superlube is great stuff, the heavy duty wheel bearing grease will work just dandy, too.

I use marine grease from the home store. Love it. I also have a tub of Finish Line Teflon grease and that also seems to work great. But, it was comparatively much more expensive. Although, as another post said, I doubt grease will keep anyone from paying their rent. But, money is money. Whatever the cheapest marine grease at your hardware or home store is my vote.
