Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes becoming articles of clothing???

I was walking down the street yesterday and was walking by a store called urban outfitters. And I saw in the window a single speed/ fixed gear bike hanging there. This is a clothing store for everyone who doesn't know what urban outfitters is. The store sells kinda hipster clothes I guess so apparently they've decided to sell bikes. It made me more mad than it probably should have but I HATE that it's like something just to complete some people's hipster image and it is gonna go all mainstream and stuff and rich girls who just wanna be hipsters will get them. Urghhhhhhhhhh. Hahaha like I said it shouldn't piss me off this much but... well... it does.

I think republic bikes are urban outfitters.

Yeah, its the hipster thing to do.

It's the bike for the people that don't know anything about bikes and want to follow the trend

Is it then OK for a Specialized shop to sell Langsters? Maybe you should need to get a "fixie license" before you buy one so we can weed out the hipsters. Please, it's a bike. Don't you think it's being a little elitist to suggest that certain people cannot purchase certain things?

Hey OP I saw the same ad and was like wtf. I didnt know they did bikes to.

Woow tho. Thats hella stupid lol. Lol don't worry. It will pass like any other trend. Who knows what the next trend will be. I mean, of course there are still going to be people who still do it because THEY think its cool and not because they love it, but in general, there will come a time when it will pass.

Ive said it earlier, but lol. Those people are probably the same people that make fun of you because you don't got the right wheels are the right frame or the right anything. Thats just hype beasts for you lol.

^Scrod: spot on.

Who cares if they sell it or not? Hipsters will buy them and most likely get tired of them or maybe one day (if they enjoy riding) buy a real rig. One way or another it gets people on bikes. Maybe it will help support LBS's mechanics when the POS breaks down. So who cares. How does this affect myslef and my riding?

Jesus. This is turning into roadie mentality.

I like hummus. It's so rich and delightfully wonderful....mmmmmmmmm..... hummus.

IMHO over all the more mainstream the bike gets the better, in any sport, there are FAIRWEATHER fans, and the bike trend is on the rise...its great for all the bike companies to capitalize on this and in return provide better stuff for the "real hardcore" cyclist.

Burn the store down if it actually piss you off that much, why the **** do you care what they are or they aren't doing? There are better things to do than *****ing about old news, do you also get pissed off at your bands gaining a fan base too? If so, go poke your ears out. Fixay and fashion have been closely related since they became popular.
